iPhone 14 series was launched globally last week. Apple announced four new models this year namely, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. This time around the iPhone mini has been removed and the company has added the iPhone Plus model to the portfolio. The iPhone 14 series this time around comes with incremental upgrades over the last-gen iPhone 13 lineup.
Interestingly, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are powered by the last-gen A15 Bionic chip while the Pro and Pro Max are the two devices to get the new and the latest A16 Bionic SoC. The RAM capacity has been increased by 2GB on the vanilla model and the battery capacities on the iPhone 14 are also similar to the last gen.
With new software tweaks and a couple of upgrades in terms of hardware, the iPhone 14 is priced is exactly the same as the iPhone 13 in the US. However, this is not applicable to all the markets as many markets including India have received a huge bump in terms of price. As you can see from the price comparison above, amongst the 11 countries compared, the iPhone 14 is cheap in the US and the most expensive in India. This is applicable to all four models. The US pricing is followed by Japan, Canada, and China.
The Indian pricing is on the higher side because in India Apple has to take care of 18% GTS and 22% customs一 the latter one is imposed before GST. Apple is reportedly planning to start manufacturing iPhone 14 in India after six weeks after the initial launch, which means the iPhone 14 is expected to be made in India sometime in October second half. Apple is expected to produce only non-Pro versions here in India. Until the manufacturing in India, iPhone 14 will be imported from outside.
It will be interesting to see if Apple will reduce the price in India when it starts selling iPhone 14 which is made in India.
