  • The iPhone SE 4 is tipped to be an upgraded version of the iPhone 14.
  • Some internal documentation suggests that the iPhone SE 4 could use the same battery as the iPhone 14.
  • The upcoming iPhone SE 4 is also expected to follow the switch from lightning to USB-C, along with dual rear cameras.

The recently launched iPhone 15 Series saw several upgrades with the introduction of USB-C and dynamic island on the base model. Apple also used a titanium frame on the Pro models, along with an upgraded telephoto lens. It looks like Apple is now gearing up to upgrade the upcoming iPhone SE 4.

As per a report by MacRumors, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to use the same battery unit as the iPhone 14. Apple may also use a modified version of the iPhone 14 chassis for its upcoming SE, indicating a huge design upgrade over the iPhone SE 3.

iPhone SE 4 Could Be An Updated iPhone 14

The iPhone SE 4, codenamed D59 as its device identifier, is reportedly in its prototype stages. As per a tip from MacRumors, the iPhone SE 4 uses a lithium-ion battery with the model number A2863, which is the same battery used in the iPhone 14.

For reference, the iPhone SE 3 has a battery capacity of 2018mAh, whereas the iPhone 14 has a battery of 3279 mAh. If the report is believed to be true, then the upcoming iPhone SE 4 will get a 50% larger battery than its predecessor, which will be a massive upgrade.

Previous reports indicated that Apple is working on a modified chassis of the iPhone 14 for the iPhone SE 4. Given Apple’s current spree of updating iPhones with new designs, the iPhone SE is more likely to be the next big upgrade as it still uses the design from the iPhone 7.

Considering all these factors, we can expect the upcoming iPhone SE 4 to be an updated version of the iPhone 14. This will give the device a boxy design, thin bezels, Face ID, dual rear cameras, and USB-C as well to comply with the EU norms. Apple could finally get rid of the Touch ID, but the notch is expected to stay for a while, at least on the SE.

If we compare these changes to the iPhone SE 3, then the upcoming iPhone SE 4 will be the biggest leap for a device upgrade, just like how Apple did from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone X.

iPhone SE 4 Expected Launch Date

Unlike the regular iPhone Series, Apple does not have a fixed update cycle for the iPhone SE. To recall, the original iPhone SE was launched in 2016, the iPhone SE 2 in 2020, and the iPhone SE 3 in 2022. The company is also quite secretive about its launches, and Apple has not acknowledged any upcoming iPhone SE 4 yet.

A previous report from MacRumors suggested that the iPhone SE 4 may not launch until 2025. One of the major reasons behind this delay could be the development of Apple’s in-house 5G modem, as the iPhone SE 4 is expected to be the first device to feature it before Apple brings that modem to its main iPhone lineup.

At this point, we do not have a definite expected timeline for the iPhone SE 4 launch.
