Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch, MacBook Pro 16-inch to Hit Mass Production Later This Year: Report

Apple, at WWDC 22, launched the new MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro with an M2 chip. The new M2 chip came with up to 18 per cent CPU gains while offering up to 35 per cent improvements in the GPU department. The iPhone 13 maker is expected to launch new Pro and Max variants of the M2 chip soon. According to reports, the Apple M2 Pro and the M2 Max will debut with the MacBook Pro 14-inch and the MacBook Pro 16-inch laptops later this year.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has now revealed some more details about the upcoming Pro MacBooks. The analyst claims that Apple’s new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBooks will enter mass production during the fourth quarter of 2022.

Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch, MacBook Pro 16-inch Production

Apple suppliers will start manufacturing the new 14-inch MacBook Pro and the 16-inch MacBook Pro during the last quarter of 2022, according to Kuo. The analyst claimed that the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which will be at the heart of the new Pro machines, will be based on TSMC’s fabrication process.

In this tweet, Kuo revealed Apple will launch the new Pro machines with a 5nm-based chip. This is contrary to some rumours, which suggested that the M2 Pro and the M2 Max chips will be based on a 3nm mode. Kuo said that given TSMC’s guidance revenue from the 3nm chip production will begin starting in 1H23, which means that the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBooks will continue to feature a 5nm SoC.

The M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, which were launched with the 14-inch and 16-inch Pro MacBooks in October 2021, are also based on TSMC’s 5nm process. Not much is known about the two MacBook Pros. Apple revamped the design last year and we do not expect the larger MacBook Pros to get any major design changes. More details should surface online in the coming weeks.
