Marvel Games has officially announced its next superhero-studded title Marvel Rivals. It is a new free-to-play PvP shooter game that will launch on PC but no specific timeline is known yet. The game has been developed in collaboration with NetEase Games, a team of people who have previously worked on globally popular titles Call of Duty and Battlefield. Here is everything you need to know about the new Marvel game.

Marvel Rivals is a Mix of Overwatch and Superheroes

The official trailer of Marvel Rivals will instantly remind you of Blizzard’s Overwatch if you have played the game. It shows two teams of six members each competing for victory. The game has over a dozen confirmed playable characters including Black Panther, Spider-Man, Magneto, Magik, Doctor Strange, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Loki, Iron Man, Star-Lord, and Hulk.

Each member (superhero/supervillain) has unique abilities that can be combined strategically with other members for advantage. For example, Rocket Raccoon can ride on Groot’s back to take out enemies. Hulk can unleash Gamma energy to boost Iron Man’s armour for increased damage.

Marvel Rivals will feature various locations from the Marvel Universe like Asgard and Tokyo of 2099. Each location will have destructible environments that will add another element to your strategies as you look to win. As for the story, Marvel explains,

“the merciless clash between tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises unknown.”

With each seasonal update, Marvel promised the game would receive new superheroes and maps. While the Marvel Rivals release date isn’t out yet, closed alpha testing on PCs will begin in May. It is unknown if the game will arrive on other platforms including consoles.
