Huawei’s Kirin 985 Chipset Performs Lower Than MediaTek Dimensity 1000 in AI Benchmark


The Kirin 990 chipset made its debut with the Mate 30 series smartphones, and it is currently the flagship SoC from the brand. However, prior to the launch of the Kirin 990, there were reports suggesting that Huawei could launch the Kirin 985 processor. However, once the Kirin 990 made it to the market, everyone assumed that the Kirin 985 SoC that was leaked earlier is after all the Kirin 990. A tweet from @OnLeaks that was made yesterday, however, says otherwise. The leakster claimed that Kirin 985 exists after all and that it could launch on 15th April. Now we bring you some more information regarding the upcoming chipset from Huawei. We have just spotted the Kirin 985 on AI benchmark, which reveals the key specifications of the chipset. Let us have a look at it.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the listing of the Kirin 985 on AI benchmark reveals that the chipset has one Cortex-A76 core clocked at 2.58GHz, three Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.40GHz, and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.84GHz. As for the NPU, it features the same Da Vinci module that is in the Kirin 990 5G. However, while the Da Vinci NPU in the Kirin 990 5G has three cores, the one in the Kirin 985 has only two cores. Unfortunately, the listing does not reveal any information regarding the GPU.

Anyway, coming to the benchmark result, the Kirin 985 has scored 50,926 points in the AI benchmark. The latest chipset from HiSilicon sits just below the MediaTek Dimensity 1000, which has scored 56,158 points, in the AI Benchmark rank chart. That being said, the Kirin 985 is still the third-best performing chipset in the chart, which is respectable. Reports online suggest that Kirin 985 could make its way into at least one Honor 30 series smartphone. Speaking of, the Honor 30 series is expected to launch on 15th April 2020.
