We are in the second month of 2024 and have already witnessed a host of new smartphone launches, and many more are on their way. However, along with smartphones, new chipsets are also on the horizon. Qualcomm seems to be cooking up a new chip for the Snapdragon 8 Gen series and we have some leaked details regarding it.
According to the popular tipster Digital Chat Station, there’s a new chip in the making carrying the codename SM8635 over on Weibo. While they didn’t drop the official name, the codename strongly hints at its place in the Snapdragon 8 series. It is said that the new SoC could be a lighter version of the current flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The leaked info gives us the tech specs scoop – a 2.9GHz ARM Cortex X4 core and an Adreno 735 GPU. The tipster also claims a solid AnTuTu score of over 1.7 million. If this holds, it means the SM8635 could outshine the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in raw performance.
Adding a twist to the tale, Roland Quandt, another reliable leaker, stated that Qualcomm has two similar chips in the works – the SM8635 and the SM7675. This raises questions about where exactly the SM8635 fits in the Snapdragon lineup.
Really wonder what the difference between SM8635 and SM7675 will be. They both show up looking basically identical, but…. I've never seen this happen with anything Qualcomm. Two model numbers for the same chip…

The SM7675 model is said to be the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 dubbed the most powerful in the Snapdragon 7 series by Digital Chat Station. Now, the confusion deepens about where the SM8635 stands in the grand scheme of things.
Even with the chip’s identity up in the air, there’s chatter about it making its way into upcoming smartphones. The POCO F6 was initially thought to house the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 and the Redmi Note 13 Turbo is on the list of speculated devices set to feature the mysterious SM8635.
In related news, Qualcomm and MediaTek are also said to be working on their flagship chipset, which is likely to be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400, respectively. Recently, both the upcoming SoCs were spotted on the Vietnamese forum Voz.vn and shared the following scores:
BENCHMARKS | SNAPDRAGON 8 GEN 4 | DIMENSITY 9400 |
AnTuTu | 31,33,570 | 34,49,366 |
Geekbench single-core | 2,845 | 2,776 |
Geekbench multi-core | 10,628 | 11,739 |
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 doesn’t perform as well as the Dimensity 9400. The CPU score for Snapdragon is 702,689 while Dimensity 9400 scores higher at 786,574. In graphics power, Snapdragon lags with a score of 1,330,057 whereas Dimensity 9400 hits 1,422,243. This trend continues in memory and user experience scores. Overall, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s total performance is 3,133,570 but Dimensity 9400 does better with a score of 3,449,366.
In the single-core category, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 scores 2,845, beating Dimensity 9400’s 2,776. However, Dimensity has the advantage in multi-core, scoring 11,739 against Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s 10,628.
These performance improvements seem impressive but seem a bit hard to believe. Until we have more solid evidence to back up these scores, it’s wise to be a bit cautious about taking them at face value. We shall update you with more details, so stay tuned.
