One of the best perks of owning a Pixel device is faster and regular software updates. In fact, Google has already confirmed 8 years of software support for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Since it is the beginning of a new month, it is time for the newest software releases for Pixel users. And now, Google has pushed the January 2024 update with fixes along with the Android 14 January 2024 security patch update for compatible Pixel devices.
Pixel January 2024 Update With Camera and UI Fixes
The new January 2024 update for Pixel devices running Android 14 focuses on bug fixes and improvements. The major areas of focus are the camera app and user interface.
The January 2024 Pixel update fixes a camera bug that was causing the Camera app to crash in certain conditions. It is available for the latest Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro along with the Pixel Fold, Pixel 7 series, Pixel 7a, Pixel 6 series, Pixel 6a, Pixel 5, and Pixel 5a 5G.
Pixel 8 series users are also receiving two more fixes. The first one is related to a flashing black screen which would appear when playing video in certain conditions. The second fix is for a Wallpaper bug showing black on the home screen in certain conditions. It is also available for the Pixel Fold users.
The last fix is only for the Pixel Tablet users. It resolves an issue where users were unable to exit the Setup Wizard in certain conditions. Google says January 2024 Pixel update rollout has begun and will continue in phases over the next week. It is available for global unlocked models as well as Verizon models.
Pixel Android 14 January 2024 Security Patch
Google has further pushed the Android 14 January 2024 security patch for eligible Pixel devices. It is the first security patch update of the new year. The update resolves 11 security issues in the patch dated January 1, 2024, and 48 issues in the patch dated January 5, 2024.
Some of the vulnerabilities are labeled moderate and others are labeled critical. It is the reason we would suggest you install the latest security patch as soon as it becomes available for your particular Pixel device.
It is an OTA release and you will receive a notification once it lands on your phone. You can also check for the update manually by visiting the system settings. However, it may not show up for you right away as software updates are usually released in multiple phases.
