Qualcomm has revealed Snapdragon X Elite processors for PCs are scheduled to arrive in mid-2024, possibly in June. What’s more interesting is that Snapdragon X Elite PCs are said to debut alongside the “next version of the Windows.” Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, mentioned the details during a recent earning call spotted and reported by PCMag.

Amon has also added the next Windows version has a lot of AI capabilities and will arrive in mid-2024. This has been highlighted in the past too. For those who don’t know, the next Windows version release has caused a lot of whispers and excitement in the last few months. Some speculations suggest Microsoft could be planning Windows 12 release but others believe it may just be another major Windows 11 feature update. Intel’s CFO Dave Zinsner also talked about a Windows refresh scheduled for 2024 last year.

The Windows update in question is said to be codenamed Hudson Valley. It is tipped to feature an AI-powered Windows Shell, thanks to the capabilities of Copilot AI assistant. There will be Smart History, Smart Search, Super Resolution, AI wallpapers, and Smart Live Captions to name a few of the AI features lined up for the release.

Qualcomm Wants to Shake the Laptop Market With Snapdragon X Elite

If we talk about the Snapdragon X Elite, Qualcomm’s goal is to shake up the laptop market with the launch. It has claimed chipset performance that can compete with the 13th Gen Intel Core i7 and Apple’s M2 desktop processors.

The Snapdragon X Elite is a 4nm ARM-based laptop processor. It is touted to deliver “best-in-class performance” against x86 processors. Qualcomm claimed 2X faster CPU and GPU performance during the launch. The focus is also on AI performance as it has an NPU rated at 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS). This is a significant bump over the performance claimed to be delivered by the likes of Intel and AMD.

Qualcomm’s upcoming PC chip has a three-cluster CPU configuration featuring Oryon cores. Each cluster has four CPU cores clocked at 3.8GHz but can overclocked to 4.3GHz (two cores at a time). It is not all about performance as the Snapdragon X Elite is claimed to be more power efficient. It is said to match peak performance at one-third of the power consumption of the competition.

There is no doubt these are some impressive numbers and claims but as we know, a chipset’s real-world performance can be very different from what is claimed. We will have to wait until mid-2024 to see if Snapdragon X Elite can shake or make a dent in the dominance enjoyed by Intel and AMD. We will keep you posted, so, stay tuned.
