Redmi A2, A2+ Spotted on BIS Website; Expected to Launch Soon in India

Xiaomi launched two new entry-level smartphones last year in India. The company first unveiled the Redmi A1, which is its most affordable smartphone currently in India. This was followed by the Redmi A1+, which came with a fingerprint scanner and was priced slightly higher than the regular variant. The new Redmi A-series smartphones are among the few entry points as an upgrade for those who are on a feature phone or are willing to get a taste of a smartphone experience. It has been a few months since the launch and Xiaomi might already be working on the successor of the Redmi A1 series. The Redmi A2 series has reportedly been spotted on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website.

The listing on BIS suggests that the launch of the A2 series could take place soon. Let’s take a look at what is known about the Redmi A2 series ahead of the launch.

Redmi A2 Series BIS Listing

The Redmi A2 series could be new affordable smartphones from the company. The devices are expected to launch very soon in India and other markets. Two Redmi A-series phones have been spotted on the BIS website by tipster Mukul Sharma, aka Stufflistings. One of the two phones has model numbers 23028RNCAH and 23028RNCAI. The other device has model numbers 23028RN4DH and 23028RN4DI.

The devices could launch within a month or so in India and other markets. Xiaomi has not confirmed any details about the launch of the upcoming Redmi A-series phones at the time of writing this.

The Redmi A1 and A1+ have a lot in common. It is unknown if Xiaomi would opt for the same strategy for the Redmi A2 series. The difference between the A1 and A1+ is that the latter gets a fingerprint scanner on the back. The A1+ also has an extra 3GB of RAM option.

Both phones offer 32GB of internal storage and have the option to expand the storage up to 512GB via a microSD card. They feature a 5000mAh battery and 10W charging support. There is a MediaTek Helio A22 SoC under the hood. The phones also come with a dual-camera setup on the back. There is an 8MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor.

The phones also have a 5MP front camera for selfies. There is a waterdrop notch at the top of the display. The A1 and A1+ have a 6.52-inch LCD with an HD+ resolution and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. They both run Android 12 (Go Edition) out of the box.
