The Redmi K30i has been doing the rounds of the rumour mill for quite some time now. Releasing in China as a slightly stripped-down version of the Redmi K30, the K30i is tipped to be the cheapest 5G smartphone. A popular Weibo leakster, Digital Chat Station, has said that the phone will be launching in the country this month and he has also mentioned an unknown Redmi smartphone that will be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 800 SoC.

To recall, the first smartphone believed to harbour the Dimensity 1000 chipset was the OnePlus 8 Lite or as it is being called, OnePlus Z. Now it is being said that in fact, OnePlus Z will have a Snapdragon 765G SoC. The Dimensity 800 is also a 5G-enabled SoC like the Dimensity 1000 and it is based on a 7nm manufacturing process. It has 4 Cortex-A76 CPUs that clock in at 2GHz and 4 Cortex-A55 CPUs also clocked in 2GHz.

It is being reported that the devices that will feature this new Dimensity 800 SoC are going to be the Redmi Note 10 and Note 10 Pro. While the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max smartphones were not launched in China since they only supported 4G, it is expected that the Note 10-series will first debut in the country before being announced anywhere else.

The Redmi K30i, slated for a launch in May, is said to keep most of the same specs as the K30. The difference is believed to only be in the primary lens on the K30i which has a 48MP sensor as compared to the 64MP sensor on the K30.
