- The addition of these games on Game Pass came out of thin air which surprised the community.

Gunfire Games developed Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant 2 have been added to Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. These new additions came out without prior announcement but it is highly welcome. Both the games show up in the Game Pass tab’s “recently added” section.
Both Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant 2 are third-person survival action shooter titles that mostly draw inspiration from the “souls-like” genre and centre on guns and loot. These titles are not actually old games with the first game being released in 2019 and the latter in July 2023.
Xbox added Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant 2 Without Any Announcement
Remnant From the Ashes was released in 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game received generally positive reviews and by December 2021, it had surpassed 3 million units in sales. A sequel titled Remnant 2 was released in 2023 exceeding expectations, Remnant 2 surpassed its predecessor in both sales and critical acclaim.

Having launched in July 2023, Remnant 2 has sold more than a million copies in its first week of release on PlayStation, Windows and Xbox in the US. Moreover, it achieved a peak concurrent player count of over 110,000 on PC via Steam alone. It even outperformed Baldur’s Gate 3, this year’s unexpected gaming sensation, in Steam sales for a certain duration. With such amount of success, the game has been nominated for the Best Action Game category at The Game Awards 2023, which is scheduled to take place on December 7.
Many fans claim that the announcement will be made at The Game Awards but it is a week away from today. Although The Game Awards primarily focus on honouring exceptional titles from the preceding year, the event is also recognized for unveiling significant world premieres and Game Pass announcements. However, Microsoft seems to be taking an unconventional approach by not waiting until the official event next week, surprising audiences with the sudden release of a couple of titles.
The Remnant II standard edition’s inclusion in the Xbox/PC Game Pass follows the November 14 launch of its initial DLC, The Awakened King, with two additional DLC expansions slated for 2024.
For new gamers eager to explore the Remnant franchise, both games, often likened to “Dark Souls with guns,” offer a compelling experience. While downloading both is recommended, playing the first title before diving into the sequel is not necessary. Given that these games thrive in co-op play, opting out for the latest release in the series might be advantageous, as it’s likely to have a more extensive player base, enhancing the cooperative gaming experience.
Remnant 2 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
