  • Passkey support is available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners.
  • Passkey users can sign into their PSN accounts on smartphones and PCs without entering passwords.

Sony has officially rolled out Passkey support for PlayStation globally. It is available for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 owners. This will serve as an alternative to passwords for easy and convenient sign-ins. Here’s how you can enable this.

What is Passkey?

A Passkey is a private cryptographic key unique to the device and service you are using it with. It can be tied to any device, a smartphone or a PC. These are also more secure than passwords as they cannot be stolen or reused. This makes them resistant to data phishing attacks. Moreover, a user does not need to remember a passkey which is another reason these are convenient to use.

Once you have enabled a Passkey, you can sign into the account using the same unlocking method you use for the device. It can be face unlock, fingerprint scan, or PIN depending on the device you have. This eliminates the need to enter your long and complex passwords every time you want to sign in.

How to Setup Passkey on PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4

The process to set up Passkey on a PS5 or PS4 device is pretty straightforward. Here’s how to go about it.

  1. Visit the Sony PlayStation Account Management page and sign into your PSN account.
  2. Click the Security option in the left sidebar to access PSN account security settings.
  3. Click Edit next to the Sign In With Passkey option on this page.
  4. You will see a pop-up where you need to click Create a Passkey.
  5. Follow on-screen instructions to create a passkey and complete the process.

Sony will send you a confirmation message on your email address and mobile phone number regarding passkey activation. You can repeat the above-mentioned steps to access Passkey settings and make relevant changes if you ever want to delete a Passkey or disable Passkey on PlayStation.
