Tata Play Becomes First DTH Provider in India to Offer 100+ HD and All Doordarshan Channels

Tata Play now offers over 900 TV channels, including 103 HD channels across various languages.

Tata Play, which was earlier known as Tata Sky, has increased the number of HD channels in its services. The DTH provider has also included all the 44 Doordarshan channels across various languages. These new changes are a result of Tata Play’s recent upgrades of their satellite system.

These additions also include 7 free-to-air HD channels of various categories like news, sports, and entertainment. Tata Play was also one of the first DTH players in India to offer DD Sports HD.

Tata Play Now Supports 103 HD Channels

Earlier this year, Tata Play doubled its bandwidth by launching India’s first demand-driven GSAT-24 satellite. This upgrade resulted in a 50% increase in channel offerings from the provider which spiked from 600 channels to 900 channels.

Tata Play now offers 103 HD channels in India, the highest for any DTH provider in the country. These HD channels are available in various genres and languages along with regional content for Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Odia.

HD channels were earlier prominent in the entertainment and sports category. But the new additions in Tata Play now include utility, news, and regional channels such as DD Sports HD, DD News HD, Jaya TV HD, ETV HD, Gemini TV HD, Sansad TV HD, and more.

Tata Play has also included all the 44 Doordarshan channels in its portfolio. These DD channels are completely free-to-air and are bundled with every. Tata Play’s new channel additions will also be available on the Tata Play mobile app.

Harit Nagpal, CEO and MD of Tata Play, has also urged broadcasters to create more HD channels. He further added that Tata Play is committed to serving the best picture and sound quality to all of its subscribers.

Tata Play currently has 36 transponders, which is the highest as compared to other DTH players in India. It was also the first DTH player in the country to focus on urban areas, as compared to the rural priority of DTH during its early days in 2005.
