TECNO Pova 6 Pro Review: Design

Design is one of the Pova 6 Pro 5G’s USPs. It features a transparent back with 200 integrated LEDs that light up in various patterns when receiving notifications, charging, and even gaming. It’s undeniably a conversation starter. However, the design is purely subjective. Some users might find this light show gimmicky, while others will appreciate the added flair.

Dimensions
165.51×76.13×7.8mm
Weight 195 grams

If you are looking for a smartphone that stands out on a budget, then the Tecno Pova 6 Pro 5G is your device.

While the design might be inspired by the Infinix GT 10 Pro, the green colour gives it a unique stance. The volume rocker and power button occupy the right frame. The latter is positioned slightly lower than traditional, so it took us some time to get used to it. The wider form factor of the device makes it tough for one-handed usage, but the weight distribution is commendable despite tipping the scales at 195 grams.

TECNO Pova 6 Pro Review: Display

Moving on to the display, the Pova 6 Pro 5G boasts a large 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. We were quite impressed with the display’s vibrancy and colour accuracy, making it perfect for watching shows and movies. The details were sharp and the blacks were deep paired with minimal bezels. It gave us a truly immersive experience for content consumption.

Furthermore, it comes with 1300 nits of peak brightness, sufficient for indoor usage. However, it struggles in harsh direct sunlight. Don’t get us wrong; reading a short WhatsApp message or the caller’s name is fairly easy. But a little bit of squinting is required to do more than that in some harsh conditions.

Size 6.78-inch
Type AMOLED
Resolution
FHD+ (1080 × 2436)
Refresh Rate 120Hz
Peak Brightness 1300 nits

TECNO Pova 6 Pro Review: Performance

The Pova 6 Pro 5G packs a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 5G processor with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. This combination delivers capable performance for everyday tasks like scrolling through Instagram, chatting on WhatsApp, and switching between several apps.

We encountered occasional stutters and lags while playing graphically demanding games like Call of Duty: Mobile and Genshin Impact. The phone also heated up during extended gaming sessions, necessitating the removal of the case for better heat dissipation. Playing these games at lower graphic presets is ideal.

While not ideal for hardcore gamers, the Pova 6 Pro 5G passes with flying colours when it comes to handling everyday tasks.

TECNO Pova 6 Pro Review: Software

The Pova 6 Pro 5G runs on HiOS v14.0, based on Android 14 out of the box. Since AI is the buzzword of 2024, we can see it in this device’s UI. It personalises your experience by recommending apps based on your usage patterns and anticipating which ones you’ll need next with the help of Smart Accelerator.

Moreover, parental controls are covered by Kids Mode. As a bonus, TECNO has integrated Ella, a translation tool that tackles both image and voice-based translations. Unfortunately, there’s no word from the brand regarding the Pova 6 Pro 5G software update.

TECNO Pova 6 Pro Review: Camera

The Pova 6 Pro 5G’s 108-megapixel primary camera captures amazing photos during the day with close-to-accurate colours, sharp details, and overall balanced exposure. However, it lacks an ultra-wide-angle camera, which would have been a nice addition.

Main Camera
108MP primary shooter with 3x zoom
Secondary Camera
2MP depth sensor
Front Camera
32MP selfie shooter

Furthermore, the portrait mode on the Pova 6 Pro 5G is one of the best highlights of this camera system. It can detect edges accurately and the depth looks nice without giving that unnatural-looking bokeh. Besides, the skin tone in the portrait mode is also quite accurate.

However, the Pova 6 Pro 5G struggles the most in nighttime or low-light situations. Photos taken at night lack details and are noticeably noisy.

TECNO Pova 6 Pro Review: Battery Life and Charging

The Pova 6 Pro 5G shines in the battery department. It packs a massive 6,000mAh battery that lasts two days with moderate usage. Even if you are a power user, the Pova 6 Pro 5G will last a day and a half without issues.

It also includes a 70W fast charger in the box, which takes around one hour and 30 minutes to fully charge from the dead.

TECNO Pova 6 Pro Review: Verdict

The TECNO Pova 6 Pro 5G offers a compelling package on a budget. It boasts a stunning display, a long-lasting battery, a fast charger, ample storage, and a unique-looking design with LED lights.

While the phone performs well for daily usage and multitasking, the occasional performance hiccups during high-intense gaming might be a dealbreaker for some. Moreover, the average low-light camera performance might also deter some users.

If you are more into performance-centric devices, you can check out the iQOO Z9 (Review). If you want LED lights and a transparent back without compromising on cameras or performance, you should consider the Nothing Phone (2a) (Review). Overall, the Tecno Pova 6 Pro is still a great choice if you are able to look past these shortcomings.
