  • The telecom operator has now launched a Maldives-exclusive roaming pack, with both calling and data benefits.
  • The plan also offers uninterrupted services at discounted rates if the user exceeds the data and calling limits.

Amidst the New Year’s holiday season, Vi has launched a new international plan for Maldives, a popular destination for Indian travellers. The telecom operator has also revised its other international plans and now offers unlimited data and calling in select countries.

Vi’s network coverage now includes over 105 countries across the globe, with the latest addition being Maldives. These international plans are available for prepaid and postpaid customers.

The Maldives special plan by Vi is priced at Rs 2999. It offers 5GB of high-speed data, 100 minutes of calling including both incoming and outgoing, 10 outgoing SMS, and unlimited incoming SMS. The plan has a validity of 10 days.

If users exceed these limits, they will be charged Rs 3 per minute for calls to India, and Rs 35 per minute for calls to the rest of the world. Post the 5GB data limit, users will have to pay Rs 1 per MB and Rs 1 for each SMS. The Maldives plan is available on the Vi app and website.

Vi has also launched a new international plan with unlimited data and calling. The plan is priced at Rs 3999 and can be used in over 100 countries including the USA, UK, Italy, Malaysia, Germany, Singapore, Brazil, and more. However, Maldives is currently not included in this plan.

The telecom operator is also offering a top-up plan of Rs 133 per day that offers unlimited incoming calls while roaming internationally. However, this scheme will need an active base international plan, like the Rs 3999 plan.

Vi is currently the third largest telecom operator in India, just behind Jio and Airtel. While the new plan focuses on international coverage, the operator has also been actively updating its local prepaid and postpaid plans.

Last week, Vi launched a new annual prepaid recharge for Rs 3199 with a bundled subscription to Amazon Prime Video. The operator also has an annual plan with Disney+Hotstar, and both these plans are cheaper as compared to similar offerings from Jio and Airtel.

As of now, Vi is gearing up to launch its 5G services across the country. The company has already started testing its 5G networks in Pune and Delhi. However, the operator has not shared a timeline for its wider 5G rollout across other cities in India.
