Hisense is expanding its home appliance play in India with the launch of its first washing machine range in the country. The new lineup takes the brand beyond televisions and air conditioners as it looks to build a broader presence across Indian households.
Rather than beginning with premium front-load machines, Hisense is targeting two of the more accessible and widely purchased segments of the market. Its initial portfolio includes fully automatic top-load and semi-automatic washing machines, with capacities ranging from 7kg to 14kg.
Hisense Washing Machine Prices and Availability in India
Hisense's fully automatic top-load washing machines start at ₹17,999, while the semi-automatic range begins at ₹11,999.
The washing machines will be sold through major retail outlets and Hisense partner stores across India. Online availability will include Amazon, Flipkart and Reliance Digital. Hisense has also announced introductory offers, although the company has not yet detailed the discounts or bank offers available with individual models.
Exact model numbers, capacity-wise pricing and warranty details have not been disclosed at the time of writing.
What the New Hisense Washing Machines Offer
The fully automatic top-load lineup extends up to 12kg and is equipped with what Hisense calls an Eco Smart and Inverter Motor. The company says the motor is designed to improve energy efficiency while keeping operation quieter.
Select models will also feature built-in heaters, India-specific wash functions and soft-closing glass lids. Heater-equipped variants could be useful for households looking for warmer wash cycles for towels, bedding and heavily soiled clothes, although Hisense has not yet shared the temperature settings or cycle-level details.
Its semi-automatic washing machines are available in capacities of up to 14kg, positioning them primarily for larger households or users who wash bulky loads. Features include Roller Jet Technology, a dedicated soak function and glass-top variants.
The broad 7kg to 14kg capacity range allows Hisense to address everything from smaller households to families that routinely wash large loads. However, drum volume, water consumption, spin speeds, BEE energy ratings and programme lists will need to be evaluated separately for each model once the complete lineup is listed.
A Volume-First Entry Into the Laundry Market
Hisense's decision to begin with top-load and semi-automatic machines appears deliberate. These formats allow the company to compete across mainstream price points while covering both urban buyers looking for fully automatic operation and households that continue to prefer the lower purchase price and greater water-control flexibility of semi-automatic machines.
Market estimates indicate that top-load machines accounted for close to 68% of India's washing machine market in 2025. Fully automatic machines represented more than half of the market, while demand for models above 8kg is projected to grow faster than the broader category through 2031.
Hisense's emphasis on capacities extending to 12kg and 14kg therefore aligns with a visible shift towards machines that can handle larger family loads, bedding and fewer wash cycles.
The absence of front-load models at launch, however, leaves Hisense without a direct offering for consumers prioritising premium fabric-care programmes, higher spin speeds or more sophisticated automation. This may be a later-stage expansion rather than an omission, particularly as the brand works on establishing distribution and after-sales support for an entirely new appliance category.
The Smart Positioning Needs More Clarity
Hisense India CEO Pankaj Rana said the company sees growing demand for larger, more energy-efficient and intelligent washing solutions. The company also cited industry estimates suggesting that smart washing machines account for more than one-third of the market.
Despite that framing, the launch announcement does not confirm Wi-Fi connectivity, app-based controls, remote diagnostics or automatic load sensing for the new models. "India-specific wash functions" and "Eco Smart" branding may describe useful cycle and efficiency features, but they should not automatically be interpreted as connected or AI-enabled functionality.
That distinction matters because intelligent washing is increasingly being used as a broad marketing label across the appliance industry. Buyers should look at what the machine actually automates, such as water-level selection, wash-time adjustment, fabric detection or energy monitoring, rather than relying on the smart branding alone.
Part of a Bigger Home Appliance Expansion
The washing machine launch follows Hisense's recent expansion of its Indian air conditioner portfolio, which now includes the IntelliCool Pro series alongside multiple mainstream AC ranges.
Hisense also inaugurated its first Indian manufacturing facility at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, in February 2026 through its joint venture with Epack. The 10-acre facility began with room air conditioner production, with washing machine manufacturing planned as part of a subsequent expansion phase.
The launch announcement does not specify whether the first batch of washing machines will be manufactured locally or imported. Local production, once operational, could nevertheless help Hisense improve cost control, tailor products for Indian usage conditions and respond more quickly to demand.
This makes the laundry entry more than a standalone product launch. Hisense is gradually shifting from being recognised primarily as a television brand in India to competing as a multi-category home appliance company. TVs may continue to provide brand visibility, but washing machines and air conditioners give the company access to categories with longer replacement cycles and stronger opportunities for retail cross-selling.
Should Buyers Consider the New Hisense Washing Machines?
The starting prices place the new machines within reach of mainstream buyers, while the larger capacities could appeal to families that find conventional 7kg or 8kg models restrictive.
Specifications alone, however, do not establish how well a washing machine performs. Wash quality, stain removal, rinsing, vibration, noise, water consumption and the effectiveness of its service network will be especially important for Hisense as a new entrant in the category.
For now, the lineup appears best suited to buyers looking for a large-capacity top-load or semi-automatic machine at an accessible price. A final buying decision should wait until Hisense reveals the complete model-wise specifications, warranty coverage and installation and service terms.
