Xiaomi announced a USD 10 billion investment for its electric car segment in 2021. Rumours were that the Chinese smartphone giant would debut its first prototype in August 2024. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China revealed the images of the upcoming Xiaomi Smart Speed Ultra 7 or SU7 EV.

The MIIT certification reveals that Xiaomi will debut its first electric vehicle in three variants. The other two variants will debut under the SU7 Pro EV and SU7 Max EV monikers. A Weibo user has shared a few spy images of Xiaomi’s upcoming electric vehicle in camouflage. The pictures shared by another user (via) also reveal the interior of the Xiaomi SU7 EV.

Xiaomi to Equip SU7 EV with a Three-Spoke Steering

The spy images of the camouflaged SU7 EV show a design similar to those revealed by China’s MIIT. Xiaomi will debut the upcoming EV as a C-class luxury sedan to compete against Tesla, NIO, Geely and others. The images confirm that Xiaomi will equip the LiDAR sensor on the roof. There were previous rumours that the LiDAR sensor would be placed behind the windscreen.

An active wing can be seen on the upcoming Xiaomi SU7 EV, which will help the vehicle catch the air that comes from the car. The wing will redirect the air up, which allows the driver to go as fast as possible. Wings are usually seen in racing cars and high-performance cars where drivers want to maximize their acceleration speed.

Another spy image shared by users on Weibo reveals a Face-ID sensor on the B-pillar, which is believed to be the top-of-the-line Xiaomi SU7 Max EV. An active spoiler can also be seen on the rear, indicating Xiaomi’s intention to position the vehicle as a high-performance vehicle. The Brembo brake callipers can be seen on the car, which is another element seen in high-end EVs.

Xiaomi incorporates flush door handles to improve the design and aerodynamics of the forthcoming SU7 EV. The thin headlights and a bonnet with a slop design add further elegance to the design. The SU7 EV has wider wheel arches and sports a five-spoke alloy wheel with yellow brake callipers. Xiaomi equips the EV with small side-view mirrors as opposed to virtual exterior mirrors seen on new-age vehicles.

The images also give a sneak peek into the interior of the vehicle, revealing the steering and other dashboard elements. A three-spoke steering with a flat bottom and multiple switches, including a drive mode selector and Xiaomi inscription button, can be seen on the inside. Xiaomi will also equip the vehicle with a large infotainment screen similar to one on Tesla’s EVs.

The SU7 EV will sport a single electric motor with a power output of 220kW (295hp). The RWD EV will feature a lithium phosphate battery and a top speed of 210km/h. In contrast, the Pro and Max models will feature dual motors with a power output of 275kW (386hp) and a top speed of 265km/h. Xiaomi is tipped to integrate the newly debuted HyperOS with the upcoming EV.
