The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 launched recently, and now Asus appears to be readying the latest Android 9 Pie OS update for the same. A test device with codename that matches the smartphone was spotted running the updated version of Android on popular online benchmarking repository Geekbench.
Asus launched the capable yet attractively priced Zenfone Max Pro M2 earlier this month. The Android handset launched alongside the Zenfone Max M2 in India. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 is the more premium one between the two as it features Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection for the display. Besides, the phone gets a better SoC i.e. Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, dual rear cameras, and a massive 5000mAh battery.
Interestingly, at the launch event itself, the company mentioned that the Zenfone 5Z and the Zenfone Max Pro M1 are set to receive the Android 9.0 Pie update in January 2019 and February 2019, respectively. However, a test device bearing the name Asus X01BDA was spotted running Android 9 Pie, clearly indicating Asus is also readying the update for this aggressively priced handset.
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 Spotted Running Android 9 Pie On Geekbench
The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 launched with Android 8.1 Oreo. Needless to add, this was rather unexpected primarily because Google released the Android 9 Pie update quite some time back. More importantly, the recently launched smartphone appears to be running on stock Android.
The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor. The listing corroborates the processor, and mentions the clock speed as 1.84GHz. Incidentally, the performance cores on the SDM660 can go up to 2.2GHz. Hence, the clock speed, which appears low, could be of the efficiency cores. The listing mentions the test device has 5,738MB or 6GB RAM. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 launched in three memory configurations, one of which does come with 6GB RAM.
The test device running Android 9 Pie OS, and packing 6GB RAM, managed a single-core speed of 1470, and a multi-core speed of 5470. Interestingly, the scores are slightly lower than the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite that packs the same processor and 4GB RAM. However, it is quite possible that Asus is in the process of optimizing the Android OS for the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2.
