Lenovo Zuk Z1 Details

Lenovo-backed Chinese smartphone maker ZUK has introduced the company's first device in the form of ZUK Z1. The device is expected to appeal to many considering what it offers as a package. The phone is priced below Rs. 15,000 in India
Camera and Performance
One should not complain much about the output of the 13-megapixel primary shooter that is paired with Cyanogen’s software and a dual-LED flash to bail you out in low light conditions. Additional options like optical image stabilization, autofocus, face detection, etc. add more to your images. On the front, to satisfy your selfie taste buds, there is an 8-megapixel secondary camera that can also record Full HD videos apart from assisting video calls.
In terms of performance, you can expect things to flow smoothly as the device is equipped with a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset. Paired with the chipset is 3GB of RAM, that paves the way for lag-free multitasking.
Design and Display
The ZUK Z1 sports a metal frame with a non-removable plastic back panel. The metal frame matches the plastic back reflecting a premium feel and look. The curved edges make the device easy to hold and carry around. On the front, the 5.5-inch Full HD display is protected from attracting scratches courtesy a layer of Corning's Gorilla Glass. The display is bright and colour saturation is also noteworthy.
Connectivity and Platform
In the connectivity department, the smartphone ships with a host of options like 4G, dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and a microUSB Type-C port that supports data transfer speed up to 5GBps. The ZUK Z1 runs the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system wrapped under the customizable CyanogenMod 12.1 out of the box. The CyanogenMod allows you change the fonts, notification icons, toggle buttons and more. In addition, the Advance Mode which was a feature in Yu handsets allows you to calibrate the display’s colour, change the LCD density of the display and enable per-app performance profiles.
Battery and Storage
Fuelled by a massive non-removable Li-Po 4,100 mAh battery, you can expect the device to easily last for more than a day. Moreover, the device comes with fast battery charging support and can be done with the fast charger provided in the box. For storing personal data and apps there is 64GB of internal storage space that is non-expandable.
Verdict
The ZUK Z1 is worthy of your money as it packs decent hardware. Performance too is satisfactory when the out-dated Snapdragon 801 chipset is coupled with CyanogenMod 12.1.

Is it better than oppo a37f?
No it ain't, I bought it by following two of my friends, but we all are hugely disappointed with its performance. There is no OTA update from Cyanogen, and we have given up hopes. It restarts frequently, and it works okay only when we turn off many essential system apps and features. Please take my advice coz that's all I can help you with. Better go with Mi phones, I've 3 of them at my home, and they work like a gem.

ZUK Z1 is better to none because Lenovo stopped producing this phone in just 2-3 months after bringing it in the market. Also the OS is cyanogen 12.1(5.1.1) on which we never got any update.

Can't say, but Zuk Z1 is a fantastic device under 15k segment. Only con is still it's running on Android lollipop version & it has some minor heating issues.

Lenovo Zuk Z1 is best for developers, who like to flash custom ROM. You can compare it with Redmi Note 4 and Note 3 but not with Oppo and Vivo.

Not at all. Worst performance of Z1, I'm not satisfied. I feel Lenovo after sale services are also worst. I don't recommend it to you.

Does it support 4G Jio SIM?
Yes, I'm using a Jio SIM in it, but it doesn't support VoLTE. So there is an app to use for calling as this won't support its Jio4GVoice Official Jio app Order to use it and for calling, data should be active Otherwise calling won't work. Data should be turned 'ON' 24 hours. Also sometimes heats up a lot almost like burning, crosses 52°C.

I am not using Jio SIM. Initially, 4G did not work, but I have gone to customer care and they changed the motherboard. Now, 4G is working with Airtel. If you are going to buy this phone, please don't invest in it 1) Heating problem. 2) The phone frequently gets off while calling.
By saurabhkanchan02, 19 months ago

Yes, it supports, but not VOLTE. You can use Jio SIM only for data use as it works superbly with Avon battery backup. If you want to use voice on Jio SIM, then you have to install JIo4GVoice application.
By himanshupunia, 19 months ago
Mark Helpful (160)
Of course, it supports 4G SIM, but the thing is that it doesn't support 4G VoLTE, and it's much better to work right now. In future, it may update to VoLTE also.
By prashanthmania, 19 months ago
Mark Helpful (139)
It does not have VoLTE, but we have to install the Jio4GVoice app. Then you can access the calling with Jio.

How is the internet speed and music of this phone?
Internet is good, but it depends on which one you use, if network gives good speed, then the same is delivered by phone too. Music is also good, charging is not so efficient, no update from one year. The sides of the phone are made of metal and it gets heated in less time.
By bhanuyqwerty, 20 months ago

Internet speed is awesome; I experienced a maximum speed of 89MBps. Sound quality is also good but doesn't have a Dolby sound. This is the drawback. Otherwise, it is a good phone.
By ujjvalpratap99, 19 months ago

Music is superb, and the internet depends on the service provider. If you are in good range on the network then the internet works superbly.
By himanshupunia, 20 months ago

Internet speed is great. Sound output through headphones is awesome and loud. The speaker volume is higher than Redmi Note 3.
By pratham.3701, 20 months ago

Internet speed is excellent. Music of the speaker is average but sound quality is good on both the speaker and earphones.

Is it upgradeable to marshmallow OS or not?
Lenovo did not release the upgrade as this mobile is not much success in the market. But if you can find the Cyanogen hem 13 version OS, then you can upgrade manually, but your phone warranty will be void. After upgrade to Marshmallow, it works much better than pre-installed Android.
By himanshupunia, 19 months ago

This phone comes with Cyanogen mod 12.1 and based on Android 5.1 lollipop and you cannot upgrade it. The good thing is you can flash a newer ROM by rooting the phone. However, that leaves you with no warranty from Lenovo.
By deepeshpal91, 19 months ago

For now, you can't upgrade to Marshmallow via OTA update. But it's been planned, and there will be a Marshmallow update in the future.
By mhd.sdq90, 23 months ago

Officially, it is upgradable to marshmallow OS. For that you need to go to the official website of cyanogenmod.
By akshayt.dakshana15, 20 months ago

No plan to upgrade to marshmallow but upgrade through custom ROM like CyanogenMod.

Is there any provision to use micro sd card for extended storage?
Yes, you can use OTG cable and run pen drive on this device. It also supports hard drives till 1TB capacity. If you buy an OTG cable, then this phone supports many USB devices, such as keyboard, mouse, gaming controller and even ethernet cable (you need USB adaptor for that).

No, there is no provision for using a SD card, it's lacking. Lenovo should consider these Problems and Should come with External Storage too.

No, there is no provision to use microSD card, but its internal memory is enough. You don't need the microSD card.
By Mohitkathuria2000, 24 months ago

Good phone.

Missing official Mod updates like 13.1 or 14.1, other than that it's a good phone to use. Cyanogen gives an excellence experience.
