Introduction and Design
China-based smartphone vendor OnePlus has come up with the successor to the OnePlus 5. The OnePlus 6 is sleek and sports a bezel-less display which delivers a unique visual experience. The smartphone sports a front-facing fingerprint reader that allows users to record multiple fingerprints which can be used to unlock the device. While the phone does claim to be water resistant to some extent, the device lacks an official IP rating.
Camera and Battery
The OnePlus 6 comes with dual front-facing cameras that promise better selfies and video calling. The smartphone comes with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera which also is aided by an LED flash. At the back, the OnePlus 6 makes its mark with powerful 16+20-megapixel primary cameras which can also be used for low-light photography and to shoot videos courtesy of a dual-LED flash. The device is backed by a non-removable Li-Po 3,300mAh cell. This battery has support for the proprietary Dash Charge technology which the company promises can recharge the battery up to 80% in just half an hour.
Display and Performance
The OnePlus 6 boasts a 6.28-inch Full HD+ Optic AMOLED screen which is paired with impressive viewing angles that make gaming and watching videos more enjoyable. The device reproduces vivid colours and offers stunning legibility even under the most demanding conditions. The OnePlus 6 also features Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection which makes the screen scratch-resistant. You can expect flawless performance during multitasking or playing high graphic content games as the smartphone is powered by a flagship-grade, octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset and 6GB of RAM.
Platform and Connectivity
The OnePlus 6 is bundled with all the regular connectivity options which include 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and a microUSB Type-C port. Also, similar to the OnePlus 5, one can use two SIM cards as the device has dual SIM support. On the software front, the smartphone runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The software is upgradable to Android 9.0 Pie.

OnePlus mentions in a blog post that the Android 11 update rollout for the OnePlus 6/6T is happening in stages. This does mean that only a limited number of users initially will receive this update. The company should widen the reach of the update when it makes sure that the stable Android 11 build doesn't contain any critical bugs. Speaking about the new features you get in Android 11-based OxygenOS 11, OnePlus has refreshed the UI design, updated camera UI, added a shortcut for Dark Mode, and has brought in Insight clock style, Canvas feature, and a bunch of improvements to Game Space.
By the time OnePlus will roll out OxygenOS 11 Stable update for the OnePlus 6, and OnePlus 6T; some devices will receive Android 12 update.
The new software update arrives in the form of OxygenOS 10.3.9 for the OnePlus 6, and the OnePlus 6T. This latest software release brings in the February Android security patch, updated Google Mobile Services (GMS) package, and has fixed known issues and improved the system stability, as per the changelog.
