Samsung Galaxy AI Just Got More Local with Support for Gujarati

It's fascinating to see how AI has evolved from being a programmer's trusted helper to becoming a vital part of any modern smartphone within a few years. As phone brands race to make it more widespread, Samsung may have gained an advantage following its recent move.

To give you a clearer picture, the South Korean tech giant has announced the expansion of two new languages for its Galaxy AI. In addition to its existing library of 22 languages, it now supports Filipino and Gujarati. As a result, people fluent in these languages or natives can conveniently utilise AI features on their Galaxy smartphones without the barrier of learning a new language. It's worth mentioning that Samsung developed the support of these new languages in partnership with its research centres in India and Indonesia.

As a brief refresher, the Galaxy AI is a suite of AI features developed by Samsung for its extensive line of phones. These features have been designed to either make tedious work a breeze or facilitate the exchange of information in unprecedented ways. So, here's a quick rundown of what features it includes and what they excel in:

  • Live Translate: Let's start with the star of the show. With this feature enabled, users can communicate with others on a call, via text, or through a message, regardless of whether they share the same language. The way it functions is that it translates voice and text in real time and displays them as text in the preferred language.
  • Interpreter: The Interpreter feature transcribes a person's speech in the preferred language, allowing effortless conversations without the need to know the other person's language.
  • Chat Assist: The Chat Assist feature helps adjust the style of a message from professional to casual, making it suitable for the ongoing conversation and delivering the user's intent.
  • Note Assist: The Note Assist feature summarises documents and helps arrange them in different formats, making work more streamlined.
  • Transcript Assist: The Transcript Assist feature transcribes, summarises, and translates voice recordings.
  • Browsing Assist: The Browsing Assist helps summarise news articles and webpages, ensuring users stay informed on key updates.

Examining the Galaxy AI features and their functionalities truly shows how Samsung is working to make AI more practical and accessible for everyday users. Although the flagship smartphones remain the primary receiving devices of these advanced features, the brand aims to expand the Galaxy AI's reach further through its affordable lineup. Its efforts have led to bringing these AI features to over 400 million users by the end of 2025.

Turning to the broader smartphone landscape, it is evident that Samsung currently holds the edge over other proprietary AI assistants like those in Oxygen OS 16 by prioritising on-device processing.

Returning to the topic of the expansion of new languages in the Galaxy AI, the newly supported languages are available for download from 29 October. With Filipino and Gujarati now part of the mix, Samsung's vision for Galaxy AI feels more inclusive than ever. The addition highlights the brand's commitment to bringing advanced technology to more users and helping them overcome language barriers with ease.
