HTC 816 A great option

I bought this phone i.e. HTC 816 Grayish Black color yesterday and it is a very decent phone. Best part is 5.5 inch screen and a very elegant design. The phone does not look like a mid range phone at all.The touch is just amazing. Camera is quite decent but might take some time getting use to all the options and buttons. The sound is very nice and clear. Blink feed is also a very nice feature.Overall a very good option compared to phones at same price bracket. I would surely recommend this phone.

best phone in the 25k bracket.

This is ma review of HTC 816!

Well, I never owned an android phone be4. I had a Lumia 800 for 2 years. And dat phone's a masterpiece from Nokia!Had no complains whatso ever but the battery had strated to drain out much faster than usual so I decided to sell
it and buy a new phone, probably an android one this time. My budget was under 25k and my mum owns a Moto G. I just love the make and feel of that phone. So ma obvious choice was to go with Moto X (elder bro of Moto G) which is around
23k on Flipkart. I was almost sure to buy dat phone but thot of having a look at other phones for that price. And oly 2 good phones came close to it. 1) Sony T2, 2) HTC 816. Of course Gionee has pretty good phones in that price range
but the UI n software on 'em suck! So they wer ruled out.

Although, Sony T2 appealed me with its 6" screen but it lacked in the specs department. So the only option left was HTC 816. So I decided to check it out at the nearest outlet. And I must say I was more than satisfied holding it in my hand.
Its a phablet but its much easier and nicer to hold in hand compared to Sony T2 (But nowhere close to Moto X. Moto X is a beauty to hold in hand) I checked out d performance and specs of the phone and I was pretty impressed by it. So I got back home n compared it with Moto X. Both had der own pro's n con's and I had a gut feeling to go with HTC816 so right nxt day I went and purchased it for 23,5oo. As soon as the phone guy unboxed the phone and gave me my Orange
HTC 816, I couldn't stop admiring it. Of all the colours Orange definitely stands out. And I became so possesive of my 816 that wen the phone guy took my phone to install the sim card (Nano sim) and go about with the settings, I just dint feel like giving it to him and dint want anyone elz to touch it except me (crazy I know :D ) But thats wat I felt at that moment.

To sum it up...816 is almost the same in specs compared to Moto X but its way better in the screen and the camera
department. I dont feel like taking ma selfie wid the FF 5MP coz it reveals ma pimples (yay! its dats good).
Its quite huge to handle and a pain to keep it in your trousers and jeans. But its 720P HD screen is amazing!
As they say PPI of a phone is hard to judge by the naked eye and HTC 816 has 267 PPI which is quite average compared
to its size. Though, the screen is HD n sharp, I witnessed few lags here n there while shifting from one app to another.
NO big deal though! But overall the touch is pretty fast n smooth. No issues whatso ever.

5.5" HD screen,
Boom Sound speakers (Too good!! ),
2600 maH battery (lasting over a day on an average to heavy usage),
Perfect size for a phablet,
Very slim and easy to hold.

Non;removable battery,
Glossy back, (very slippery to handle with one hand)
1.5 GB RAM (very less for a phone this big)

Verdict: I would blindly recommend this phone to any one wid a budget under 25k. Its every penny worth the money. A perfect phone for big screen conscious ppl. Its super smooth and the camera is just amazing. I fall in love with ma Orange beauty everytime I switch on the display. Its a head turner in the crowd when you carry it around.
All ma frenz are envious of my phone now.

As it is...everyones needs and preferences are different. So its always best to buy a phone which matches your
needs and wants rather than going by any1's review. Every1's views are different.

So if you want a smaller and an average sized phone with amazing specs then Moto X is a no brainer and if you
are a big phone maniac then 816 it is any day :)

Friends, to be frank. This is my first android phone as i was using nokia e63 symbion!

But this phone is fantastic!!

Price:-my plan was to get Samsung phone for around 17k, but i thought that Samsung launching in Indian market very late. so i thought to go moto x, another fantastic choice. but what all i need is dual sim as i will working in two states, so to avoid roaming charges i have to go dual sim option. than i was searching the phone.

large screen:- i read lot of documents for my official purpose. using my tablet is inconvenient. so i need large screen but should handy. i went for sony eperia ultra t2, but it too large to handle! i need little small. so the choice will be 5.5 inch.

4G:- here in my mind, i though why can’t i go for next gen 4g? so my sear widen to 4g with dual sim.

price:- to get all these things, i had two choices.

1. sony ultra t2 desire 816.

price:-both are almost same.

look:- htc is beautiful, but sony just like normal phone without any work on look.

software:- htc kit Kat ready but sony need to update.

4g:- Indian tele companies having 4g in the bandwidth of 900 1200 and 1500 also 2300. sony work only at 1200, whereas htc work at 900 1200 and 1500. so, htc surely accept Indian 4g bands!. sony may not.

816 : Great phone

HTC desire 816

This is one of the best phone available in this price range.

The phone has got really beautiful design. Personally I found it to be better than T2 ultra. It is a slim device but heavy.

The screen is quite large and has great resolution.

One problem with design is the power button placement. Since it is placed at top of phone, it is inconvenient. The placement should have been similar to Moto g.

Speakers on front are real good and quite loud. Due to large screen and clear sound , watching movies on the phone is a great experience.

Operating System

One of the key features of the phone is it runs on Kitkat. Being a techie myself ,I think this a must for any new phone. Using older versions of a software can be quite painful.

The phone has 1.6 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor which is speedy but slightly dated. I think for current Andriod version quad core is sufficient.
The battery could have been more powerful atleast 3100 Ah like one plus one.

Internal storage is 8 GB but expandable which is really great.

Both cameras are quire powerful and also functionally easy to use. Clearly this is one of the attraction as far as 816 goes. I found cameras to be much better than Indian phones having same specs. Obviously for higher price , one gets better features.

Considering the smooth performance , good sound , great camera , this phone is clear winner in this category.

Best Mid Range Android experience

HTC desire 816 ticks all the boxes [at least for me!] when it comes to owning a Mid range Android phone and IMO trumps the competitors out of the water in most of the areas:
1. Performance: For an average user like me with productivity/work related apps running during weekdays and casual gaming during weekends [aka Asphalt 8] the desire 816 gives a zero lag experience. I guess the 1.5GB RAM does the trick. On the video front, it plays 1080p videos without any lag.
2. Screen quality: Most of the PPI advertised [greater than 250] is very difficult to discern on such a small screen. I think it is more of a marketing gimmick to make specs stand out. I find the screen in HTC 816 [PPI of 267] to be excellent for viewing webpages, reading books on Play books app or the Kindle app, or viewing images. Viewing angles are also very good. But visibility in the broad day light under sun is bit difficult, and you will need to crank up the brightness. Indoors brightness at 30% itself is very bright for my requirement.
3. Camera: The rear 13MP camera clicks pretty good pics indoor and outdoors. While taking brightly lit subjects outdoor, it tends to get overexposed at times, but the same can be corrected by taking multiple shots or manually changing exposure value. Front 5MP also click very good pics and excellent for Video calls/Hangouts.
4. Audio Output: Desire 816 has stereo speakers with Boomsound which can give a very pleasurable listening experience and we can avoid going for head phone always as in other phones. The sound is definitely not tinny like other phones in the price range. The Audio DAC used by HTC also is very good and with a good App like Poweramp and set of nice headphones you can really feel the difference. Those using this as an audio player will like this. The stock headphones that come with this are ordinary ones, nothing spectacular, can be used for voice chat/casual music etc. For serious listening consider an upgrade.
5. Memory: The 8GB internal storage is very less since the usable memory is around 3.95GB only. This is one major drawback for anyone trying to install multiple heavy games [like FIFA/Asphalt]. For media storage etc, you can install up to 128GB via Micro SD card. I have a 64GB Sandisk MicroSD card installed and it works without any issues. Moving apps to memory card won't work for all apps and those which can be moved, will move only partial data to SD card. So memory is a limitation for heavy users. For the rest of the folks like me, this is more than sufficient
6. Battery: With moderate usage I'm getting around 1.5 to 2 day from full charge to 15%. Again it depends on the settings and what Apps you allow to Sync, but overall pretty good. An improvement compared to Nexus 5 I used before
7. Build: Battery is non user replaceable and the build quality is very solid, like the Lumia range Windows devices. Volume button quality is not good though
8. Call quality: I would say it is good and clarity is also great
9. Others: Has DLNA, so you will be able to stream content to compatible devices and can be used as Media server. India version of the Desire 816 is a 3G model with Dual SIM, no 4G variant available. I'm using the white model, since the black had a glossy back which was attracting lot of fingerprints. I haven't tested USB OTG, so can't comment on it. Comes with Android Kitkat out of the box with HTC Sense 6 version. I found the Sense 6 to be superior to the stock Android in Nexus 5 in many areas, any case that is subjective!

I would recommend this phone to any Android user over Samsung/Sony/LG offerings in the same price bracket. It is a definite VFM option out there!
