Acer, known for its budget-friendly laptops and PCs, is expanding into home electronics. The Taiwanese tech giant plans to manufacture and export appliances from India, such as water purifiers, air purifiers, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners. Check out the details below.

Acer’s Plan in India

Harish Kohli, the Managing Director of Acer India, shared with ET that the company is making significant progress towards achieving the targets set for the first year of the revised production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, initiated in April 2023.

In a bid to diversify its business in a market that exhibited growth with a 19-20% year-on-year revenue increase in 2023, Kohli disclosed plans to establish AcerPure. This newly formed entity will focus on selling consumer appliances, with the registration process expected to be completed in the coming weeks, positioning AcerPure as a formidable player in the market. Acer has Dixon Technologies as its manufacturing partner.

Acer aims to manufacture these products in India, taking advantage of the nation’s expanding electronics manufacturing ecosystem. Additionally, the company is exploring potential exports of these products to neighbouring countries. It is suggested that the products will be sourced through existing electronics manufacturing services (EMS) vendors in India.

Acer Smart TVs and Air Conditioners Are Already in India

Just like Acer’s affordable laptops and computers, the company also has Smart TVs and Air Conditioners in India under the same brand. Acer TVs are sold on popular online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, offering options like 4K Ultra HD Android Smart LED TVs and QLED TVs. The Air Conditioners come in three variants (1.0 ton, 1.5 ton, and 2.0 ton) with features like Super Chill Mode and InverterTec.

However, it’s important to know that Acer does not make these products directly. They are produced by another company called Indkal Technologies, which has the right to make and sell these products under the Acer brand in India. Even though they carry the Acer name, Indkal Technologies is the one making them.

Importantly, this shift doesn’t mean Acer is abandoning its Laptop or PC business. According to the IDC report, Acer maintained its position as the fourth-largest PC brand in India, boasting a 12.3% market share and experiencing a 16.1% growth in shipments year-on-year in 2023.
