Apple iOS 18 Could Get Radical Design Overhaul Inspired From visionOS: Report

Apple's iOS 18 update is rumoured to be an important one with several AI features expected.

  • Apple iOS 18 could seen a design overhaul when it rolls out later this year.
  • It looks like iOS 18’s new elements will be inspired by visionOS, the operating system powering Apple’s Vision Pro headset.
  • Previous rumours had suggested that the iOS 18 will be a major update either way.

A new iOS 18 leak has revealed that Apple is going big with the efforts to unify Vision Pro in its product lineup. According to the leak, the next-generation iOS 18 will come with a radical design change in the user interface. The latest leak comes from an Israeli publication called The Verifier.

In the past, various rumours including a report from Bloomberg revealed that the iOS 18 is speculated to be the most ambitious and biggest update for the iPhone in years and will likely included more elements powered by artificial intelligence (AI) as well. Let’s take a look at all we know about the iOS 18 at this point.

According to The Verifier report, the visionOS-inspired design elements in the UI will come to both iOS and iPadOS 18. The latest leak reveals that the Apple TV app on these platforms will come with the same translucent navigation bar that was introduced in the tvOS 17.2 and is similar to the Apple TV design in the visionOS.

According to the report, Apple also plans to redesign various stock apps including Safari, and system menus to resemble that of visionOS.

For the uninitiated, Apple typically showcases a new iOS version at the WWDC event held in June before releasing it to the public in September with the launch of new iPhones. We can expect the brand to stick to the same timeline for the iOS 18 launch as well.

After WWDC 2024 in June, Apple will roll out the iOS 18 beta for developers, followed by a public beta for users. The final version of the new operating system is then released to all users around September after the launch of the iPhone lineup.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has confirmed that iOS 18 will be the biggest update in the history of the iPhone. According to the noted tipster, the next update will bring integrated generative AI features and a large language model (LLM) built into Siri and the messages app.
