Apple is reportedly testing the M3 Max chipset that’s said to power 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2024. The information comes from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who has revealed the core specs of the next-generation M-Series Max processor. Notably, the M3 Max will be the successor to the M2 Max, which powers the current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. Let’s take a look at the information leaked by the latest report.

According to Gurman, Apple is currently testing the next-generation MacBook Pros. Notably, MacBook Pro is the only laptop from Apple to feature the Pro and Max M-series chipset. Gurman has claimed that Apple is testing multiple M3 MacBooks currently.
Gurman reports that one configuration of the M3 Max chipset in the high-end 16-inch MacBook Pro comes with a 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU, and up to 48GB RAM. The test log seen by Gurman reveals that the M3 Max will have 12 high-performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. This is all that the Gurman confirmed in the latest report.
The current M2 Max processor features a 12-core CPU and up 38-core GPU. It comes with up to 96GB RAM, and we can expect the M3 Max to offer up to 96GB of unified memory as well. The M2 Max also comes with a 16-core Neural Engine, which could be retained on the next-generation M3 Max.

Gurman has also revealed recently that an M3 Mac Mini is also in development. This test device is powered by the base M3 chip with an 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 24GB RAM. The M3 Mac Mini was spotted running the macOS Sonoma 14.1 OS. Gurman has listed the M3 Macs under development as below.
