Apple is expected to refresh its iPad Pro in 2024 with multiple upgrades. Reports suggest that the company could introduce OLED screens on iPads, shifting from the Liquid Retina XDR display.
A new tip has now surfaced online hinting that upcoming iPad Pro may get support for MagSafe wireless charging. Apple is said to have been testing MagSafe compatibility for iPads since 2021, and we may finally see its implementation on the next iPad Pro.
MagSafe for iPads Could Soon Become a Reality
Macrumors has reported that the upcoming iPad Pro might include support for MagSafe wireless charging. The tip comes from a source that produces magnets for Apple’s products.
However, bringing MagSafe to iPads can be challenging for Apple. The company will have to shift from aluminium back panels to glass back panels to allow wireless charging. As iPads have a larger footprint, having a huge glass back could make the iPad susceptible to cracks and fall damage.
Apple will also be required to use stronger magnets to keep the iPad firmly attached to the MagSafe pad. It will be interesting to see how Apple overcomes these hurdles if it decides to introduce MagSafe on iPads.
To recall, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg had reported that Apple was testing MagSafe for iPads in 2021. However, the iPad Pro of 2022 did not feature MagSafe or any wireless charging features. This makes the upcoming iPad Pro a strong contender to get this upgrade, as Apple is currently on a streak to refresh all of its devices as we saw with the latest iPhone 15 Series.
Previous reports suggest that Apple’s next iPad Pro may also finally make the switch to OLED screens. The latest iPad still use the Liquid Retina XDR LCD screens which is a slightly dated technology as compared to OLED screens on the iPhones.
Apart from a new iPad Pro, Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple may also introduce a 12.9-inch iPad Air during the iPad refresh. However, this new iPad Air may continue to use LCD screens and Apple may keep OLED panels to the iPad Pro for now. The company is expected to introduce its latest Apple M3 chip with the iPad Pro.
The upcoming iPad lineup refresh could see the biggest upgrades on iPads. Apple may schedule these launches in two phases. The base model iPads are expected to launch as early as March 2024, whereas the iPad Pro could launch in mid-2024.
