World Environment Day: Samsung Study Finds Indian Consumers Among the Most Energy-Conscious Globally

Energy efficiency has become one of the biggest factors influencing appliance purchases in India, with consumers increasingly looking beyond just features and pricing. From air conditioners to refrigerators and washing machines, buyers are paying closer attention to power consumption and long-term running costs.

This shift is also visible on MySmartPrice, where users actively search for energy-efficient appliances, especially 5-star rated products across categories such as ACs and refrigerators. With electricity costs and appliance usage increasing, energy ratings have become an important part of the purchase decision for many households.

On World Environment Day, Samsung has shared new insights highlighting this changing consumer behaviour. According to an internal study by the company, India ranked second globally in energy savings through the effective use of AI among users of Samsung's Bespoke AI-powered home appliances with SmartThings AI Energy Mode.

Samsung SmartThings AI Energy Mode: How It Helps Save Energy

Samsung SmartThings AI Energy Mode uses artificial intelligence to analyse usage patterns and optimise energy consumption across compatible Samsung appliances, including air conditioners, washing machines, and refrigerators.

The feature works through the SmartThings connected ecosystem, allowing users to monitor energy consumption and manage compatible smart home devices through a single app.

According to Samsung, AI Energy Mode can help deliver up to 30% energy savings on air conditioners and up to 70% savings on washing machines and washer dryers.

Why Energy Efficiency Matters More for Indian Homes

Indian households are increasingly using more high-capacity appliances, from larger refrigerators to air conditioners that run for longer durations during extreme summers. This has made energy consumption a bigger consideration while purchasing new products.

Traditionally, consumers have relied on star ratings to identify efficient appliances. However, brands are now adding software-driven features such as AI-based usage optimisation and connected monitoring to improve efficiency beyond hardware.

Samsung's Smart Appliance Push in India

Samsung has been expanding its Bespoke AI appliance portfolio in India with connected features across categories such as refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners.

The company's focus on AI-based energy management comes as appliance brands move towards smarter homes, where devices are expected to automatically adjust performance based on usage habits.

For consumers, these features do not replace traditional factors such as star ratings and capacity but add another layer of control by helping track and optimise everyday power consumption.
