Taiwanese PC and mobile manufacturer, Asus, is updating its line of gaming products in India today. The company announced new gaming devices under the ROG Strix brand in the country. The ROG brand stands for Republic of Gamers (ROG), Asus’ oldest brand for gaming. The Strix brand is new ins comparison, but the company has made some critically acclaimed devices under it too. The new devices include both laptops and desktops with AMD’s new Ryzen 5000 series processors and graphics chips from Nvidia’s new GeForce RTX 30 series. The products include the ROG Strix G15/G17, Strix Scar G15/G17, TUF A15 and the Strix GA35 desktop. The devices were announced globally in January this year.

Asus ROG Strix Scar G15 and Scar G17

The Asus ROG Strix Scar G15 and G17 take the flagship moniker amongst today’s devices. The two laptops have displays with 300Hz refresh rates and 3ms response time. If you bump up to the 1440p displays then the refresh rate will drop to 165Hz. The devices also run on AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800H and Ryzen 9 5900HX processors. For the GPU, you can choose between Nvidia’s GeForce RTX3070 or the even more powerful RTX3080 chips.

What will perhaps draw even more users towards these though is the “first-ever” optical-mechanical keyboard. The company claims these will offer faster response times and are more durable. The Strix Scar G15 and G17 also include larger screen-to-body ratio and charge using USB Type-C connectivity. There’s also Dolby Atmos support for audio and two-way noise-cancelling microphones that use artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

The non-Scar versions of the laptops mentioned above make slight compromises, but come at lower prices too. These two devices don’t have the optical-mechanical keyboards and slightly different designs. The processor and graphics options remain the same though, which is something many users will appreciate.

Asus ROG Strix GA35 gaming desktop

The Strix GA35 is for those who prefer to game on desktop computers. This one will come with AMD’s Ryzen R9 5900X or the Ryzen R7 5800X processors, fitted on Asus’ own X570 motherboard. For the GPU, you get to choose between the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 and the RTX 3080 chips. Desktop gaming devices get a smaller market in India, but they also have lesser competition. Asus could also target these devices towards film makers and other creators, who sometimes use such devices for their work.

Asus TUF A15

The TUF A15 is another offering for gaming laptop buyers. This is an update to last year’s version, so it doesn’t change much. The device has the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060 graphics chip. It also has a 90Whr battery. The TUF line of gaming laptops was originally started with a focus on durability as well, so we expect some of that to continue this year too.

Asus ROG Strix series pricing

While all these products have been announced in India today, some won’t start selling before the first half of 2021. The ROG Strix G17 and the ROG Strix Scar G15 are going to be available from March 22, while the GA35 desktop won’t sell till the second half of the year.
