The 20th edition of the BAFTA Game Awards, or the British Academy Games Awards, was held on April 11, 2024, at London’s Southbank Centre. The BAFTA Games Awards, or the British Academy Games Awards, are a prestigious annual ceremony honouring outstanding creative achievements in the video game industry.
The British Academy had diverse nominees for the 20th BAFTA Game Awards, with 40 titles competing across 18 categories. Mirroring other major ceremonies, Baldur’s Gate 3 reigned supreme at the 20th BAFTA Game Awards, sweeping five awards (in its 10 nominations), including the coveted Best Game title.
The Dungeons & Dragons-inspired RPG impressed the judges with its music and narrative, while Andrew Wincott’s performance as the beloved devil Raphael earned him the acting award.
Nintendo saw success with its 2023 releases, as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder secured wins in various categories. However, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, despite its impressive nine nominations, only managed to snag one award.
Beyond Baldur’s Gate 3‘s dominance, the BAFTAs saw other studios shine. Remedy snagged Artistic and Audio honours for Alan Wake 2, while Viewfinder, a surprise success, won for both New IP and Best British Game. Venba (Debut Game), Tchia (Game Beyond Entertainment), and Dave the Diver (Game Design) all rounded out the night with well-deserved wins.
