As part of a recent update, Arrowhead Game Studios announced that Helldivers 2 PC players will now have to create a PlayStation account, which needs to be linked to the Valve app for security purposes. The developers took it to social media to make the announcement earlier today.
Helldivers 2 Need a PS5 Account
New PC players joining Helldivers 2 (Steam) need to connect their Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account from May 6. Existing PC players will be shown a mandatory login page from May 30, and they should link their Steam account to a PSN account by June 4.
Developers of Helldivers 2 say linking PlayStation Network accounts to Steam is key to maintaining a safe and secure gaming environment. This allows them to take action against players who engage in disruptive behaviour while providing a clear appeals process for those who believe they’ve been banned unfairly.
While creating a PlayStation Network account is free and easy to set up, this is something that many PC players will likely prefer to skip over. Linking accounts across platforms is nothing new but Helldivers 2 has made this a hassle by making this mandatory for PC players.
However, this requirement, which adds an extra layer of security, was not well received by the players and many were disappointed with the news.

Helldivers 2, released on Feb 8, is the biggest launch for Sony on PC and they made cross-play support for PS5 and PC. Within three days of launch, the game sold 1 million units. However, overwhelming popularity caused server issues for the first two weeks. Developers quickly brought in new staff to fix the problems, and by the third week, the player cap jumped to a whopping 700,000, smoothing out the experience for everyone.
Helldivers 2 is Getting a New Premium Warbound this Month
In other news, Arrowhead announced a new premium content pack for Helldivers 2 called “Polar Patriots.” It offers new arctic-themed armor sets with various passive boosts, alongside new weapons like the high-damage AR-61 Tenderizer assault rifle and the trap-setting PLAS-101 Purifier.
The cost of the Polar Patriots Warbond hasn’t been officially confirmed, but based on past Warbonds, it’s expected to be 1,000 Super Credits (around $10). It is set to release on May 9 for PS5 and PC. Click here for more details.
