5G connectivity launched in October last year in India at IMC 2022. Since then, telecom operators and smartphone OEMs have worked closely to make phones compatible with 5G networks. However, Apple and Google were late to the party. While Apple 5G update came in December, Google 5G update is now rolling out for Pixel phones in India.

Google just dropped the March software update for its Pixel devices that brings improvements in battery and charging, camera, UI, etc. But it also brings a major feature for Pixel users in India, 5G support. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest Google Pixel 5G update.

Google Pixel Phones Now Support 5G in India

The March software update for Pixel devices in India brings 5G support for users who have been waiting for a long period. Currently, three Pixel phones in India support 5G connectivity – the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and the Pixel 6A. With the latest update, all three devices are now compatible with 5G network on Indian carriers such as Airtel or Jio.

Pixel users on Twitter confirmed that they are able to use 5G services with the latest update. Check out some of them below.

How to Activate 5G on your Google Pixel Phone?

The March update allows users to experience 5G speed on their Pixel phones. Before, we tell you how to activate 5G services on your Pixel phone, make sure that you have downloaded and installed the March update (size: 457MB) on your device. Further, make sure that you are using an Airtel or Jio sim, as Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL do not support 5G in India. That said, here’s how to activate 5G on Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro or Pixel 6A.

  1. Go to Settings on your Pixel phone.
  2. Tap on Network and Internet.
  3. Choose a SIM that supports 5G and tap on Network Preferences.
  4. Now, it will show you three options – 5G, LTE and 3G. Choose 5G.

That’s it! You are done now and within a couple of seconds, you will be able to use 5G services on your Pixel phone.

Pixel 7a Coming Soon

On the other hand, Google is expected to launch a new phone, Pixel 7a at its I/O 2023 event happening on May 10. Ahead of the launch, the Pixel 7a has leaked in its full glory. The device specifications and high-quality images have leaked.

In terms of design, the Pixel 7a will feature a visor-like metallic camera module on the back. Other leaked details include a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, Tensor G2 SoC, Android 13, and 5W wireless charging.
