DxOMark Says Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro Have the Best Display on a Smartphone

The Google Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro have received the highest ratings on the display benchmarks by DxOMark. Both devices have scored 154 points in DxOMark’s display testing across multiple factors such as readability, colour, video, motion, touch, and artefacts.

DxOMark report says that the colours on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are well rendered. Both devices also offer excellent visual clarity in indoor and outdoor lighting conditions.

Although the Pixel 8 does not go as bright as the iPhone 15 Pro Max outdoors, the device is able to tweak the colours in a way, that the text readability is much sharper on the Pixel than the iPhone. There are two possible reasons behind this, the glass used on the Pixel’s display could be less reflective than the iPhone, resulting in better visibility.

Another possibility is that the Tensor G3 chipset on the Pixel 8 could be using AI processing to adjust the visuals, better suited for direct outdoor lighting. Whatever the reason, the Pixel 8 has beaten the latest Apple flagship in terms of outdoor display visibility.

The Pixel 8 Series has also shown one of the best colour reproduction as per the DCI-P3 gamut. The device was also tested for sRGB colours, which showed a wide spectrum coverage, Overall, the Pixel 8 Series has aced through the display tests of DxOMark, making it the top-rated display device on the portal’s leaderboard.

DxOMark has however reported a slight complaint with the new Pixel 8. Both devices sometimes register unwanted touches on the edges of the screen, when the phone is held with one hand. Such issues were also reported on Samsung and OnePlus devices in the past and can be fixed with a software update. However, Google has not addressed this situation yet.

Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro Audio Tested by DxOMark

As much as the latest Pixel 8 Series has shined in the display tests, the devices may not have made their mark in the audio tests. The Google Pixel 8 has scored 140 points, while the Pixel 8 Pro has secured 142 points in the audio testing by DxOMark. Both phones have not even entered the top 10 list on the audio rankings on DxOMark.

However, this does not that the Pixel 8 Series has bad speakers. The DxOMark report reveals that the Pixel 8 Series offers a very balanced sound output, with excellent dynamics and spatial performance. The devices are also able to suppress external noises very well, in recording audio.

The reason that the new Pixels are ranked lower in the audio leaderboards is that the topmost devices were too good to beat. The list is led by the likes of the Black Shark 5 Pro, ASUS ROG Phone 6, ROG Phone 5, and other gaming-centric devices.

These smartphones are equipped with multi-speaker setups, to aid the gaming experience. Such arrangements are not necessary on normal devices like the Pixel, Samsung, iPhones, etc. For reference, even the latest iPhone 15 Pro Max is ranked at 12 on the same list.

The only downside of the audio performance on the Pixel 8 is a slight distortion on high volumes, as reported by DxOMark. Other than that, the Google Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro are equipped with excellent stereo speakers for a rich multimedia experience.
