Google launched its first-ever foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold in May last year. The device arrived with the company’s in-house Tensor G2 chipset featuring a 7.6-inch OLED display, a 48MP triple-camera setup, and an 8MP selfie camera. Now, the company appears to be gearing up for the launch of the Pixel Fold successor, in the form of Pixel Fold 2.

Though, we don’t have any details as to when Google plans to launch its second generation Pixel Fold, a new leak coming from the folks at Android Authority reveals the key details of the device.

Google Pixel Fold 2 Is Being Tested With Tensor G4 Chipset

As per the information shared by an anonymous source with Android Authority, the upcoming Pixel Fold 2 will utilize a Tensor G4 chipset, which is codenamed as “zumapro”. It is believed that the company was testing the prototype previously with the Tensor G3 chipset for a few months.

Considering that the brand is now planning the device with the Tensor G4 chipset as per the source, it is possible that the device might not be introduced in May similar to last year’s foldable phone. We believe this because the company usually schedules its hardware event in September or October.

If the company does have plans for the launch of the Pixel Fold 2 at its I/O developer event, then chances are that the device might not include the Tensor G4 SoC. The report also claims that the Pixel Fold 2 is right at the beginning of the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) stage, which does mean that it’s far away from the mass production (MP) phase. Right now, there are no details available regarding the specifications of the Tensor G4, but we can expect it to be a modest update compared to the Tensor G3.

Alongside, the Pixel Fold 2 chipset details, the source also has revealed that the prototypes are being tested with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

To recall, the Pixel Fold was launched with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. As of now, we still don’t have any details regarding the Pixel Fold 2 specifications such as its display size, camera, battery, and design. Maybe in the coming few months, we can get to learn a couple of information related to the device if it arrives on the benchmark or certifications.
