HMD Global Rebrands Nokia Website and Social Media Profiles, Hinting at Withdrawal of Nokia Branding

HMD Global has renamed social handles and the website of Nokia to Human Mobile Devices (HMD). The brand initially confirmed that the HMD and Nokia smartphones would co-exist in the future in the market.

The renaming might be a hint that the Finnish phonemaker may the Nokia badge on their phones in the future. But it doesn’t just at rebranding — Nokia.com/phones URL is now being redirected to HMD Global’s website.

But, there has been no concrete statement from HMD on whether they are, in fact, axing the legendary Nokia brand.

HMD will continue to sell existing Nokia smartphones and will offer after-sales support for the smartphones.

The brand also highlights its presence in over 200 countries, with over 400 million Nokia users ever since the takeover in 2016. HMD claims that they will be the second-largest market leader for feature phones in 2023.

HMD Global Vice President of India previously confirmed the plans of the brand to debut HMD-branded smartphones. The executive divulged that the devices will launch in the first half of 2024, with India as a priority market.

HMD Global also teased the large battery capacity of the upcoming smartphone. The teaser confirms that the upcoming smartphone will sport a dual rear camera setup. A Finnish online publication called Suomimobiili recently shared the product render of the forthcoming device.

The render seems to be marketing material that displays the Cyan colourway of the upcoming HMD device. HMD Global has confirmed that it will debut the smartphone in Cyan shade after the rebranding of the website went live.
