Driving License Update: How To Change Address in Driving License

Driving License is one of the most important documents for Indian citizens who drive a vehicle, be it a two-wheeler, a four-wheeler, or even a truck. Keeping all the details on a government-provided document is extremely important especially with the communication address printed on the ID like driving License and Aadhar card. In case, you have changed your address, it is recommended to change the address on all documents quickly. In this article, we will take a look at how to change the address on your Driving License.

How to Change Address in Driving License?

1. Visit parivahan.gov.in
2. Under Online Services, select “Driving License Related Services”
3. Select the State from where the service is to be taken from the drop-down list
4. Under the “License Related Services” option, click on “Drivers/ Learners License”
5. Select “Apply for Change of Address”
6. The next screen will display for the application submission, read it
7. Click on the “Continue” button at the bottom of the screen
8. In this screen enter your DL Number and Date of Birth
9. Click on “Get DL Details”
10. Confirmed that the above Driving License details are yours by selecting “YES” in the dropdown.
11. Select the nearest RTO from the list and click on “Proceed”
12. Fill in all the details that are required here including the new address
13. Check the box against “Change of address on DL”
14. Select one option among “Permanent”, “Present”, or “Both” and fill in details
15. Click on Confirm > Submit

Documents and Fee Required for Address Change in Driving License

Since you are changing your address on DL, you will have to upload a document to confirm your identity and address. Here are the documents that can be used as proof for change of address in Driving License.

• Application in Form 33
• Certificate of registration
• Proof of new address (Aadhar card, Voter ID, Passbook, Electricity bill)
• Valid insurance certificate
• Pollution under control certificate
• No Objection Certificate from financier (in case of hypothecation)
• Smart card fee*
• Attested copy of PAN card or Form 60 and Form 61(as applicable)
• Chassis & Engine Pencil Print*
• Signature Identification of the owner

How To Upload Documents for Address Change in Driving License

1. Visit parivahan.gov.in
2. Under Online Services, select “Driving License Related Services”
3. Select the State from where the service is to be taken from the drop-down list
4. Under the “License Related Services” option, click on “Drivers/ Learners License”
5. Here, select “Upload Document”
6. Enter Application Number and Date of birth
7. Click on Submit
8. Select the type of document you are uploading from drop-down
9. Enter the document number and other mandatory fields
10. Click on “Choose File” and select “Upload”
11. Click on “Confirm” once the upload is successful
12. Click on “Next” and complete the payment

The document you are uploading should be in jpeg, jpg, or pdf format and you should have self-signed the document as well. Once the payment is done, the screen will show the application details along with the application number, date, and other information like applicant address and RTO address. Additionally, you will also get a message on your phone with the application number, which can be used to track your application status.

As for the fee, for change of address in Driving License, you will be charged Rs 500.

How to Check the Application Status Online?

1. Visit parivahan.gov.in
2. Under Online Services, select “Driving License Related Services”
3. Select the State
4. Under the “License Related Services” option, click on “Drivers/ Learners License”
5. Click on “Application Status”
6. Enter your application number and Date of Birth
7. Enter Captcha code
8. Click on Submit
9. Your application status will be displayed on the screen
