Qualcomm is planning to launch a new chipset to enable the launch of an entry-level 5G smartphone in India. This device is expected to be priced below $99 (approximately Rs 8,500), which will be pretty interesting given that not many entry-level 5G phones exist. Here are the details.

Qualcomm’s Affordable 5G Initiative

According to the report from Money Control, the latest chipset could encourage 2G consumers in India to migrate to a smartphone-enabled 5G network. Qualcomm is working with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to build and launch the phone.

Qualcomm executives told MoneyControl that the gigabit 5G smartphone device will support the 5G standalone architecture that Jio currently offers. The gigabit 5G smartphone will be powered by a dedicated low-cost customised CPU with SA-2Rx capability, allowing gigabit speeds over a 5G network.

Currently, we don’t have any information regarding the chipset or device, and there’s nothing official available, either. But we will update you once there’s something substantial. So, stick around.

Besides, It’s crucial to note that there aren’t many 5G smartphones priced under Rs 10,000 in India. The only one worth mentioning is the itel P55 5G, priced at around Rs 9,700.
