Nintendo Switch 2 has been rumoured for a while and now, fresh information has surfaced on the internet, hinting at a Switch 2 with a bigger screen and revamped Joy-Con controllers. The gaming console is expected to come with significant upgrades over the 2021 model. Here’s everything you need to know about Nintendo’s upcoming handheld gaming offering.

Nintendo Switch 2 Rumours: New Joy-Cons, Larger Display, and More

According to reports from a Spanish publication, Vandal, the upcoming Switch 2 might feature upgraded Joy-Con controllers that attach magnetically, a departure from the current rail system. This change could mean existing Joy-Cons might not work with the new console. However, it might work for you if you are a Switch Pro user.

Furthermore, a recent report from the Japanese publication Nikkei stated that the upcoming Switch 2 will have a larger display than its predecessor. Currently, the standard Switch features a 6.2-inch screen, while the Switch OLED has a 7-inch panel.

Interestingly, the details floating on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumour subreddit stated that the upcoming console will come with “backward compatibility.” This means that players who own games for the original Switch will be able to play them on the new Switch 2 console. However, it’s important to note that Switch 2 cartridges will not fit on the original Switch due to design changes.

Nintendo Switch 2 Expected Launch

According to the Vandal report, the Switch 2 console was almost ready to hit the shelves. However, the company preferred to wait a little longer to have a stronger catalogue of games ready at launch. As a result, it is expected to arrive early next year, as stated in earlier reports.
