Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced Krutrim AI back in December 2023. The idea with Krutrim AI was to develop an indigenous large-language model (LLM) focused on India. Now, the Krutrim AI chatbot, which is based on this Indian-origin LLM, is being available to all users as a public beta. The chatbot will compete against other generative AI-based ones such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
Of course, the highlight of Krutrim is its compatibility with multiple Indian languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati and even Hinglish, in addition to standard English.
How to use Krutrim AI Chatbot
The Krutrim AI chatbot can be accessed from the official website chat.olakrutrim.com. First-time users have to register on the website using an Indian phone number. Upon successful registration, users can ask the chatbot any question, which will be answered using generative artificial intelligence.
The user interface of Krutrim’s website is similar to ChatGPT and Gemini. Once the chatbot generates a relevant answer, users can provide feedback to the bot by choosing between the like and dislike options. Krutrim also provides an option to regenerate the response if the user is not satisfied with the current version of the output.
The dashboard on the left side of the website will show the history of all previous conversations. However, Krutrim currently does not have the option to delete the history or past queries.
Coming to the features of Krutrim AI, it is as good as its competitors and can function as one’s assistant. Users can ask Krutrim to write codes, food recipes, essays, plan their travel, and much more.
Interestingly, when we tested Krutrim AI, we discovered that the chatbot can answer queries related to current affairs. When we asked Krutrim about the winner of the fourth cricket test match between India and England, the bot answered perfectly and also provided extra context with information about the top players of the match.
Krutrim may have been given live access to the internet, which is highly restricted on ChatGPT and Gemini. But again, Ola is yet to give more details on such factors.
However, Krutrim has limitations, as the response generation speed is slower than its competitors. It cannot generate images at the moment. In contrast, OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s CoPilot can create images using generative AI. Gemini was also capable of the same, but Google recently removed the feature for creating images to fix some issues.
As of now, Krutrim is only available on its official website. There is no official Android or iOS app. Krutrim is also free to use and has no paid subscription for now.
Earlier, Krutrim was only available to a small set of users. The current version is an open beta, only available to Indian users. The stable or global release of Krutrim has not been revealed by the company yet.
