OnePlus, earlier today, confirmed that the OnePlus 11 will get extended software support. The upcoming OnePlus flagship will launch officially in India and other markets on February 7. The OnePlus 11 gets the latest Android 13 update out of the box. It has a layer of ColorOS 13 on top of Android in China. However, the phone’s global variant will have a layer of Oxygen OS 13 on top of Android. Now, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has revealed that the 11 5G will get the most number of software updates that the company has ever revealed for its phones.

The device will get four major Android updates and support for five years of security patches. This means that users who own the upcoming OnePlus flagship will get Android 14, Android 15, Android 16 and Android 17 versions via OTA updates in the coming years.

OnePlus joins the league of companies that offer longer update support to provide a premium smartphone software experience. The likes of Apple and Samsung have already set a benchmark in the industry when it comes to providing software support. While Apple does not have a set number of years as a promise, it is known to provide iOS updates to iPhone models as old as six years.

Samsung, on the other hand, provides four years worth of software updates and security patches for five years. Android’s owner Google lags behind the two tech giants when it comes to the number of software updates. Google has promised to provide three major Android updates and security support for up to five years for its latest Pixel phones.

OPPO recently confirmed that it will also provide software support for up to five years for its flagship smartphones. The premium OPPO smartphones will get four major Android updates and five years of security support.

The only players who do not have a definite word on the software update cycle are Realme, Vivo and Xiaomi. Motorola too is sort of behind in this regard. Although, the Lenovo-owned company has a reputation for rolling out the latest Android updates fairly quickly.
