OnePlus recently launched the 11R 5G in India. The new 11R 5G is a premium smartphone offering sitting below the OnePlus 10T 5G and the flagship 11 5G in India. OnePlus launched the new R-series smartphone with the latest Android software update out of the box. The 11R 5G gets the new Android 13 update, which has a layer of Oxygen OS 13 on top. The company, at the time of the launch, did not reveal any details about the software update cycle of the 11R 5G. Now, the OnePlus support team has officially confirmed that the 11R 5G will get extended software support.
The 11R 5G is confirmed to get three major Android updates and four years of security support. This is the most number of software updates that any R-series phone launched to date has or will ever get. Although the 11R 5G gets fewer updates the 11 5G to get four Android updates and five security updates following its launch. This means that the new OnePlus flagship smartphone launched at the Cloud 11 event will get up to Android 17 while the OnePlus 11R 5G will get up to Android 16.
Not many smartphones in the sub-Rs 40,000 category are promised to get as many updates. For instance, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is promised to get only two major Android upgrades and three years of security updates. The likes of the iQOO 9 and Vivo V25 Pro are also likely to get similar software support. There is the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE from last year, which is sometimes available for purchase for under Rs 40,000. Possibly the last Fan Edition smartphone, the Galaxy S21 FE came with Android 12 out of the box and will get up to Android 16.
Providing extended software support means that OnePlus users will be able to experience new features on their device without having to spend more. Hopefully, OnePlus is also quick at rolling out the software updates, something which it is struggled to do in the recent times.
OnePlus 11R 5G Price and Specifications
The 11R 5G has been launched in two storage options. The base model has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The phone is priced at Rs 39,999. There is also the 16GB+256GB storage option, which is priced at Rs 44,999.
The phone features a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. There is a 5000mAh battery and support for 100W SuperVOOC fast charging out of the box. On the back, there is a triple-camera setup. The phone features a 50MP IMX890 sensor with f/1.8 aperture and OIS (optical image stabilisation). The same sensor is found in the flagship OnePlus 11 5G. It also features an 8MP ultra-wide camera sensor with an f/2.2 sensor and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies, the phone has a 16MP front camera. The 11R 5G can record up to 4K@60fps, 1080P@240fps, and 720P@480fps videos.
The device has a 6.74-inch AMOLED display with a 2772 x 1240-pixel resolution. It supports a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and has 100 per cent DCI-P3 coverage. The screen can also get bright up to 1450 nits.
The device has an in-display fingerprint scanner, an alert slider, Wi-Fi 6 support, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, etc.
