OnePlus has finally given its users some information about the status of the Android 9.0 Pie OxygenOS Open Beta update for the OnePlus 5 (Review) and the OnePlus 5T (Review). These smartphones were supposed to get the Android Pie Open Beta update a while ago. However, the update has been delayed and users have been pouring out their frustration on Twitter, and OnePlus forums. Now, in a weekly status update post on the OnePlus forums, a company rep stated that the Pie based OxygenOS Open Beta is almost out and asked users to have a little more patience.

Android Pie for OnePlus 5/5T

OnePlus has been quite busy since the launch of the OnePlus 6T. The company has already released three software updates for its latest smartphone. It has also been working on improving the Android 9.0 Pie experience on the OnePlus 6. The device received a new Open Beta update this week, which brought along a couple of new features such as OnePlus Roaming. All of its latest devices are now running Android 9.0 Pie, while OnePlus 5 and 5T users are still waiting for the update.

The company recently released the HydrogenOS Open Beta based on Android 9.0 Pie, for the China variant of the OnePlus 5/5T. This update was released last week in China. After releasing the update in China, OnePlus then releases the same for the Global variant. However, it needs to make several changes to the software before doing that, which is why it is taking them a while. In case you didn’t know, HydrogenOS doesn’t include the Google Play Store and other Google services.

Now, OnePlus usually posts a weekly status update on its official forums, where it talks about everything that happened in the week. In the Week 258 update, it finally provided new information regarding the status of the OnePlus 5/5T OxygenOS Open Beta update. A OnePlus representative wrote:

Some of you may have noticed that it has been 3 weeks since the last Open Beta build for OnePlus 5/5T. We’d like to shed some light that Pie for 5/5T is almost out for Open Beta

The OxygenOS Open Beta update for the OnePlus 5/5T has been delayed this month. The Open Beta program provides users with up to two beta updates in a month. However, OnePlus hasn’t released even a single update in November. That is about to change though, as the latest Pie based OxygenOS Beta is expected to land next week. A stable Android Pie update is expected to arrive in December or early January.

What to Expect in the next OxygenOS Beta Update?

Well, for starters, OnePlus 5 and 5T users will finally get a taste of Android 9.0 Pie with the upcoming OxygenOS Open Beta update. Since OnePlus has taken so long on this update, you can expect it to be relatively bug free. However, since it is a beta, users could still face some issues after updating.

Apart from a brand new OS, OnePlus has also made changes to the UI and added new features to OxygenOS. The Open Beta should include new navigation gestures as seen on the OnePlus 6T/6. It should also feature improvements for the camera, better battery life, new Caller UI, redesigned weather app, and more. Overall, this update should improve the performance of the device and make all the users happy.
