OnePlus Open Confirmed to Launch Soon; Tipster Reveals Launch Date

OnePlus initially teased the launch of the upcoming foldable smartphones during the OnePlus 11 5G launch event in India. The company teased that the forthcoming devices will debut in Q3 of 2023. OnePlus later confirmed that the upcoming foldable device will debut under the OnePlus Open moniker.

MySmartPrice exclusively revealed the specifications of the upcoming smartphone in collaboration with OnLeaks. The tipster later revealed the smartphone renders, which revealed the sizeable rear camera module. Max Jambor initially tipped that OnePlus will debut the smartphone on August 19.

The tipster later revealed that the smartphone launch was delayed due to QC issues. OnePlus reportedly sourced Samsung’s foldable displays instead of BOE’s display. The Chinese smartphone giant has confirmed the launch of OnePlus Open, aka its first foldable device, at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2023 event.

Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus North America, and Dr. Zeng Xi, Creative Director, revealed that the launch of its foldable device marks the 10-year milestone of OnePlus. Zeng highlighted that OnePlus will continue to affirm its “Never Settle” tagline with the upcoming products. OnePlus hasn’t explicitly revealed any launch date or timeline for the upcoming foldable smartphone.

OnePlus added that the public will know more about the upcoming OnePlus Open smartphone through the OnePlus website, OnePlus forums, and social media channels in the upcoming weeks. Max Jambor confirms that the forthcoming smartphone will debut globally on October 19. The tipster added that the smartphone will go on sale soon after the launch.

The tipster confirms that there won’t be many delays for the smartphone sales to begin. Popular tipster Yogesh Brar recently hinted that OnePlus will price the smartphone under Rs 1,20,000. The smartphone will rival Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, TECNO Phantom V Fold, and the upcoming OPPO Find N3 smartphones.

The upcoming OnePlus foldable device is said to be a rebranded OPPO Find N3 smartphone. As mentioned earlier, the leaked renders of the smartphone reveal the presence of a massive camera module. OnePlus will equip the smartphone with triple rear cameras in partnership with Hasselblad.

Hasselblad branding can be seen on the right side of the camera module along with a Time-of-Flight (ToF) or LiDAR sensor. OnePlus logo can be seen beneath the camera module and LED flash on the top left corner of the device. The outer screen of the device will be bigger and is similar to OPPO Find N2.

The previous leaks reveal that OnePlus will equip the device with a secondary 6.3-inch AMOLED display. The primary foldable AMOLED display will measure 7.8-inch with 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. OnePlus will equip the device with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The foldable device will run on Oxygen OS 13.1 based on Android 13 out of the box.

The chipset will pair with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0 storage. The smartphone is tipped to launch in Black and Green colour options. OnePlus will equip the device with a primary 48MP sensor, a secondary 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a tertiary 64MP telephoto lens. OnePlus Open will be backed by a 4800mAh battery with 67W fast charging support.
