Qualcomm is hosting a new event on May 20 in China. The brand took to the Chinese micro-blogging site – Weibo to make a formal announcement for the upcoming conference. Qualcomm is expected to unveil the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 in the upcoming event. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will be a mid-year refresh of the company’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which was unveiled last year in December.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, on the other hand, will be the company’s first 7-series processor with the new nomenclature. To those unaware, the brand had announced the new naming scheme for the Snapdragon range of processors at the Snapdragon Tech Summit in December 2021.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+: All You Need to Know
A couple of months ago, a report claimed that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ carries model number SM8475 and will make its debut in the month of May. The report also suggested that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will be manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm fabrication process. To those unaware, the current-gen Snapdragon flagship – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is fabbed on Samsung’s 4nm process.
Going by the leaks and reports, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will have 1 + 3 + 4 core configuration which includes a Cortex X2 prime core with 2.99GHz frequency. The processor is said to come with three Cortex A710 cores and four Cortex A510 cores. Previous reports suggest that Qualcomm has made some advancements on the GPU front as well and as a result, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will come with an upgraded GPU. However, these upgrades will be marginal.
Ahead of the announcement, Realme Vice President Xu Qi has revealed that the company plans to launch a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ powered smartphone in the coming months. Realme’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ powered smartphone could be the Realme GT Master Explorer Edition 2.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1: All You Need to Know
Alongside, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, the US-based brand is also expected to announce its first 7-series device with new nomenclature. The upcoming 7 series processor will bring with it an octa-core CPU including four performance and four efficiency cores.
The upcoming Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC is said to make use of ARM Cortex A710 and Cortex A510 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and 1.8GHz respectively. As per the leaks, the SoC will come with an integrated Adreno 662 GPU.
