Samsung launched two new Galaxy A-series smartphones in China last month – Galaxy A6s and Galaxy A9s. At the same launch event, Samsung teased its upcoming Galaxy A8s smartphone. The teaser image show by Samsung at launch event revealed an edge-to-edge design with a hole in the display for the front-facing camera. Alleged images of the Samsung Galaxy A8s display assembly and screen protector have now leaked online, revealing an Infinity-O display. If these images are indeed the real deal, the Galaxy A8s will have a “punch hole” cutout at the top of the display.

Samsung Galaxy A8s Leak Reveals an Infinity-O Display

While Samsung had stayed away from the notch trend so far, the upcoming Galaxy A-series smartphones are expected to be the first to come with the new Infinity Displays that were showcased at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2018 in San Francisco earlier this month. While a recent leak had claimed that the first Galaxy smartphones to feature the new Infinity Display design would be the Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A90, it now appears the Galaxy A8s would be Samsung’s first smartphone to feature an Infinity-O display. Similar to the Galaxy A6s, however, there is a possibility that the Galaxy A8s will be available exclusively in China, at least initially.

The alleged images showing the Galaxy A8s display assembly and screen protector suggest the smartphone will come with a “punch hole” cutout at the top of the display for the front-facing camera. Fortunately, however, the images suggest the smartphone will not have an off-center cutout as suggested by some sources. As the smartphone will not have a notch, the Galaxy A8s should be able to achieve a significantly higher screen-to-body ratio than any current Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S10 flagship smartphone is also speculated to feature a similar cutout at the top.

Samsung Galaxy A8s to Launch Early Next Year?

As of now, there is no word on when the Galaxy A8s is expected to be launched. Since Samsung has already teased the launch of the smartphone, we can expect it to be released by the end of this year or early next year. The Galaxy A8s is expected to be positioned between the Galaxy A6s and Galaxy A9s in China. We can expect it to feature a Super AMOLED display measuring around 6-inches diagonally with Full HD+ resolution. Under the hood, Galaxy A8s could be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC, just like the Galaxy A6s and the Galaxy A9s. If the smartphone is released in early 2019, there is a possibility of Samsung choosing a newer Snapdragon 670 or Snapdragon 675 instead. In the memory department, we expect the Galaxy A8s to be available with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. In the camera department, we expect the Galaxy A8s to sport a triple-camera setup at the rear.

The Galaxy A8s will not be the only upcoming A-series smartphone to sport an Infinity-O display. A recent leak had suggested the Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A90 would come with a “new” Infinity Display design. The Galaxy A70 is expected to be a successor to the current Galaxy A7 (2018), while the Galaxy A90 will succeed the Galaxy A9 (2018). We expect both smartphones to be made official sometime early next year.
