Samsung recently introduced its latest S24 series, and as expected, the focus this year was on AI. The refreshed flagship lineup from the South Korean giant comes with something called the Galaxy AI, which is the company’s take on the generative AI service, which is mostly powered by Google Cloud. Samsung has officially confirmed that Galaxy AI will be extended to older models, by the first half of 2024.
TM Roh, President and Head of MX business at Samsung Electronics, has confirmed that the Galaxy AI is coming to around 100 million Galaxy devices worldwide in the current year.
Which Devices will get the Galaxy AI?
At the recent Unpacked event, the company said that the new Galaxy AI features will come to older devices like the S23 series, S23 FE, Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5, and the Tab S9 in the first half of this year.
Everyone thought the Galaxy S22 series would also get these features, but turns out, it’s not on the list. So, sadly, the S22 series won’t get any of the cool Galaxy AI stuff, and the list they showed at the stage was the comprehensive one.
What is Galaxy AI and its Capabilities?
Galaxy AI is Samsung’s way of using the power of your device to offer AI features and functions. Samsung first mentioned Galaxy AI in November 2023, saying it combines on-device and cloud-based services to make your experience better. Subsequently, the company has further developed the platform, and the Galaxy S24 series stands as the first tangible showcase of its potential. Here are the Galaxy AI’s capabilities:
- Live Translate: This feature provides real-time translation for conversations through the phone dialler or Interpreter mode, facilitating smooth two-way translations for in-person chats.
- Circle to Search: This is the most popular feature of the lot. It allows users to circle or highlight text/images to instantly perform a web search, searching directly from visual content on the screen.
- Chat Assist: Designed to assist users in chatting across multiple languages on messaging and social apps, Chat Assist allows for adjusting the tone and fixing grammar and spelling errors.
- Note Assist: This function summarises documents and creates templates in Samsung Notes. Note: Assist intelligently condenses lengthy files or generates new document templates.
- Auto Replies: Summarising incoming messages and suggesting smart replies. It also enables users to respond to messages with voice commands and send informative auto-generated replies.
- Transcript Assist: This feature generates transcripts with speaker tags for voice memos, providing instant transcripts for audio recordings.
- Generative Edit: This feature allows for editing photos by generating new image content, allowing users to alter photos by removing objects or adding new generated visuals.
- Edit Suggestion: Offering recommendations to enhance photos, Edit Suggestion provides users with intelligent suggestions to improve their images.
- Instant Slow-mo: It converts standard videos into slow motion, making any video share-worthy in slow-motion format.
