Samsung is steadily rolling out the latest version of its Android-based software, One UI 5.1, for eligible Galaxy smartphones globally. The One UI 5.1 is based on the Android 13-based operating system, which Google announced at I/O 2022.
Samsung started rolling out One UI 5.1 based on Android 13 to its range of smartphones in India. The company has also revealed the list of eligible devices that will get the new update. That said, here’s everything you need to know about the One UI 5.1, including its features, latest news, and more.
Samsung One UI 5.1 Top Features
The top features of One UI 5.1 based on Android 13 include home screen refreshes including notification design changes, new themes and colour options, multitasking improvements, widget options, lock screen tweak options, an all-new wallpaper page, and camera enhancements. Let’s discuss in detail:
New Notification Design
The upcoming One UI 5.1 will come with a new notification design. The company may introduce new icons. Moreover, the notification share and quick settings now have a slightly tweaked design by increasing the opacity as compared to the previous generation of One UI 4.1.
The OneUI 5.1 update brings a new feature of stackable widgets. With this, users will be able to stack multiple widgets on the home screen. In order to do so, one needs to hold down on the widget, tap on ‘Add widget’, and select the ones you want to add.
OCR Feature in Gallery and Keyboard
Samsung has added a new OCR (Optical Character Recognition) feature in the One UI 5.1. With this feature, users will be able to copy text from the images right from the Gallery application. Moreover, the feature may also be made available for the Samsung keyboard application.
New Permission Dialogs
Samsung may also re-design the permission dialogs in the One UI 5.1 application. As per the latest leaks, the brand will be using the default Android permission dialogs, which may be visible at the centre of the screen.
New Security and Privacy Hub
The One UI 5.10 update may bring new and improved Security and Privacy hub. The hub will be a one-stop for all security needs. It will come with some features like a Lock screen, accounts, Find My Mobile, App security, Updates, Privacy, and more.
Take Notes During Calls
Samsung has also added a new feature through which users will be able to take notes during a call. However, it seems that the feature is likely to available for S Pen devices only.
New Multi-Tasking Gestures
The upcoming One UI 5.1 also bring some new multitasking features. Users will be able to change to a split-screen view by swiping up using two fingers. One can also swipe from the top corner towards the middle of the screen to switch the app from full screen to pop-up view.
Samsung users have been complaining a lot about the delayed animations and the company seems to be coming up with a fix in One UI 5.1. The latest version of OneUI is tipped to make animations smoother. There’s no mention of what these animation changes are exactly, they could be changes in charging animation, UI animation, unlock animation, etc.
The Samsung One UI 5.1 is expected to have a few tweaks in the design. There’s very little chance of UI overhaul but we could get to see minor changes.
The Samsung One UI 5.1 operating system could bring better optimisations for apps and other features to get users the best experience from the Samsung ecosystem.
New Share Notes App
The update also brings new features to its Notes application. With this, users will be able to write, edit and share notes with up to 100 people at the same time. Everyone can see changes as soon as they are made.
