The laptop industry is rapidly growing in India, especially after COVID-19. Our team at MySmartPrice recently published MSP Tech Insights, giving an overview of the share of the different brands in the country. While Samsung does not rank among the top brands, things may change soon. A recent report from Live Mint stated that Samsung is looking forward to starting manufacturing laptops in its Greater Noida plant in India. The South Korean giant is one of the biggest contributors to the Make in India scheme. Now, a Samsung executive has confirmed to Live Mint about its plans to start manufacturing laptops this year in India.

Samsung to Start Manufacturing Laptops in the Noida Plant

T.M. Roh, president and head of Samsung’s mobile experience, has stated that the South Korean giant will start manufacturing laptops this year. The head has applauded the government’s initiatives regarding setting up the manufacturing plant in the country. R.M. Roh further adds that Noida is the second-largest base for Samsung globally.

The plant requires some optimisations to meet global demand, which included a slowdown in 2023 in various parts of the world. However, the global slowdown has not changed the fact that Noida is still an important base for the brand. The move comes after the Government of India restricted the import of laptops and tablets in August 2023.

However, the notification was quickly withdrawn following widespread criticism. The restriction on imports was to reduce India’s dependence on foreign nations. Samsung Mobile Experience head forecasts that there will be a rise in market growth of up to 5% in 2024, which will offset the decline that occurred globally in 2023.

Samsung also aims to increase the number of Galaxy laptops by introducing various Galaxy AI features. The South Korean giant also predicts that high-end Galaxy smartphone users will switch to Galaxy laptops. The introduction of Galaxy AI and other features will help the brand overcome the growing replacement cycle in the industry.

Samsung is intending to bring Galaxy AI to over 100 million users in 2024, which will provide more experiences and usability for users. The Galaxy AI features, which were introduced by the brand, will be free for customers until 2025. The Noida plant of Samsung is expected to produce around 60,000 to 70,000 laptops annually in India.

The reason why the number of laptops that will be manufactured in the Noida plant will be lower is owing to the low percentage of market share for Samsung in the laptop segment in the country. The laptop segment is dominated by HP, which is followed by other brands such as ASUS, Acer, Dell, and Lenovo.
