Tesla Model X on Bengaluru Streets

A red colour Model X was recently spotted cruising near Minsk Square, close to Cubbon Park metro station, and the pictures of the car went viral on social media. As a result, users started speculating about its origin. Some thought it might be a “private car” from Dubai, while others were impressed by Tesla’s presence.

“It looks like a private car registered in Dubai,” commented one user, while another said, “Not a test drive, probably someone driving their car from Dubai, which is allowed for a limited time.” Another user mentioned, “That’s a Dubai-registered Tesla on Carnet. Pretty common in Kerala.”

Will Tesla Launch in India?

The car seen on the Bangalore streets doesn’t point towards an imminent launch of the Model X in India. Typically, test vehicles do not have a licence plate. Furthermore, contrary to prior speculations, Tesla does not intend to launch the Model X in India.

The company reportedly plans to debut with the Model Y, followed by Tesla’s yet-to-be-named 2-door electric car.

Tesla’s Plan for India

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Tesla is considering setting up a manufacturing plant in Gujarat, with an official announcement expected at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, which is set to begin on January 10. The strategic location and business-friendly environment in Gujarat seem to be attracting Tesla, and the state government has proposed locations like Sanand, Dholera, and Becharaji for the potential plant. If all goes as planned, Tesla aims to meet domestic and international demands from the Gujarat plant.
