The Vivo Y83 Pro was launched in India in August this year for INR 15,990. The smartphone has now received a price cut of INR 1,000, making it available to purchase for INR 14,990. The smartphone will be available with a discounted price at online as well as offline stores. The news comes from a well-known Mumbai-based mobile retailer Mahesh Telecom. Currently, the new price of the Vivo Y83 Pro is live on Flipkart. Other online retailers are yet to update the price.

The Vivo Y83 Pro comes as a successor to the Vivo Y83. The most noticeable change the Y83 Pro brings over the Y83 is the dual-camera setup at the back and increased storage capacity from 32GB to 64GB. The rest of the specifications of the Y83 Pro remain similar to the Y83. For its price of INR 14,990, the Y83 Pro competes directly with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, and the Motorola Moto One Power. Unfortunately, the Vivo Y83 doesn’t pack hardware as good as its competitors. Hence, the device isn’t popular. That being said, it is not far behind the competition. Let us have a look at what the device has to offer.

Vivo Y83 Pro: Specifications and Features

As per its looks, the Vivo Y83 Pro is modern. It has a bezel-less display with a notch, and a shiny glass back. The smartphone comes in three color variants: Black, Gold, and Nebula Purple. Although, the smartphone looks good in Black and Gold color variants, it looks even better in the Nebula Purple color. The Nebula Purple color variant has a color gradient, just like the one we see on Huawei smartphones. Under INR 15,000, the Vivo Y83 Pro is undoubtedly, one of the best-looking smartphones.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, the smartphone has a bezel-less display with a notch. The display is an IPS LCD unit that measures 6.22-inches and it has a Full HD+ resolution. Vivo hasn’t mentioned if the display has Gorilla Glass protection, which lets us believe that it doesn’t, which is a disappointment for a smartphone of this price.

Moving to its camera hardware, the Vivo Y83 Pro has a 13MP + 2MP dual-camera at the back. The 13MP sensor is for capturing photos, while the 2MP camera acts as the depth sensor for the portrait photos. The 13MP camera uses phase-detection autofocus, and it has an LED flash, just like most other smartphones, nowadays. Unfortunately, the rear camera of the Y83 Pro can’t record videos at 4K resolution. This is one thing that its competitors like the Moto One Power and the Zenfone Max Pro M1 offer. A front-facing camera is an 8MP unit.

While most competitors of the Vivo Y83 Pro have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, the Vivo Y83 Pro comes with Helio P22 SoC. The Helio P22 is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 636. This is one more reason people don’t prefer buying the Y83 Pro over other smartphones in the price range. The Vivo Y83 Pro has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There are no additional storage or RAM variants of the device. Although, the 64GB of storage is enough, the Y83 Pro also has a dedicated microSD card slot to expand the storage up to 256GB.

Coming to the software, the Vivo Y83 Pro runs on Android 8.1 Oreo OS customized with FunTouch UI. A 3260mAh battery powers the Vivo Y83 Pro. The battery capacity is less considering the size of the display. To make the battery experience even worse, the Vivo Y83 Pro doesn’t even have fast charging. That being said, I think the 3260mAh battery provides enough power for a whole day’s usage.
