The Vivo Y series is an affordable line of phones by the Chinese company that comprises feature-packed smartphones that offer a decent performance. The company released the first MediaTek Helio P22-fueled smartphone, the Vivo Y83 back in summer, and if a recent report is to go by, Vivo will release a follow-up device by the name of Vivo Y95 before Diwali.

All That We Know About Vivo Y95

The news was broken by 91Mobiles who claims to have secured it from a reliable source. However, apart from its name and price, nothing is known about the upcoming device. The phone will cost below Rs. 15,000 and it will be an upgrade over the Vivo Y83. Given these few crumbs of information and the latest Y-series campaign that is running in India, we can extrapolate some details about the upcoming phone. First of all, given that its progenitor was launched in May only, this would be only an iterative upgrade over the Vivo Y83. Secondly, the upcoming phone will probably feature a camera system with portrait mode, and it will have an octa-core processor, FullView Display, and higher RAM.

What Vivo Y83 Offered

The Vivo Y83 was first released in China, before making its way to India in August. The phone carried a price tag of INR 14,990 at launch time but the price has come down to INR 12,149 since then. The mid-ranger sports a huge 6.22-inch HD+ notched display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. It is fueled by the MediaTek Helio P22 and has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 256GB with a microSD card. The phone has a 13MP camera on the back with an aperture of f/2.2. The front camera is 8MP and it is backed by AI for customized beauty effects. The phone runs Android Oreo-based FunTouchOS and also has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, as well as a face unlock feature called Face Access 2.0.

The upcoming Vivo Y95 will compete with other mid-rangers falling in the same price category such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Motorola Moto G6, and OPPO A83, of which a new 2GB RAM variant was launched recently.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro sports a 5.99-inch display, is underpinned by the Snapdragon 636 SoC, and has a dual rear camera system. Comparatively, the Moto G6 has a 5.7-inch display, gets its firepower from the Snapdragon 450 chipset, and has a dual camera setup on the back. Lastly, the 5.7-inch OPPO A83 is fueled by the MediaTek MT6763T Helio P23 chipset and only has a single rear camera.

The Competition

The price of the Redmi Note 5 Pro starts at Rs. 12, 999 in India, the Moto G6 costs Rs. 11,136, and the base variant of the OPPO A83 is pitched at Rs. 8,990. Performance wise, the Vivo Y83 is a little better than the Redmi Note 5 Pro, but it is missing a secondary lens on the back. We think that if the Vivo Y95 comes with a dual rear camera setup, it will do pretty well in the market.
